Pa. family: 'Friends' torture, kill disabled woman...
I went into work today in a pretty good mood, despite the driving rain and raw chill here in Orlando.
In the office a couple of hours, reading the news here and there, and I stumbled across this.

I've been crying off and on since, and if you don't want to be too, I suggest you skip this post and hide it.
I have seen worse posted here so I have little guilt in posting it, I know others feel like me in that we did not know her, but we wish her a peaceful after life.

Why does this happen?

I didn't know Jennifer Daugherty, and the only connection I have to her is that I used to live in Pittsburgh.
She sounded like a wonderful trusting person, and we could use more like her.

Pa. family: 'Friends' torture, kill disabled woman

Jennifer Daugherty's mom and stepdad didn't press for details when she mentioned she had made some new friends.
The 30-year-old had the mental abilities of an adolescent but wasn't the kind to get in trouble, and she was even thinking about getting her own place soon.
Police found her body Thursday stuffed into a garbage can in a school parking lot; they say she had been forced to consume detergent and urine - and to write a fake suicide note - before she was fatally stabbed by attackers who also shaved her head and painted her face with nail polish.
Six suspects have been charged, including her new "friends."

"She was exploited, and her kindness and her handicap made her very vulnerable," Daugherty's sister, Joy Burkholder, said.
"She trusted everybody; she believed everyone was good, and no one would hurt her."

Daugherty's stepfather said she often traveled on her own by bus from her home in Mount Pleasant to Greensburg, about 10 miles away, for dental or counseling appointments.
After she hopped onto a bus Monday, she called her folks later in the day seeking permission to spend the night at "Peggy's" house.

It was the last time she would talk to them.

I'm still crying.

write a suicide note, drink urine, and then beat herself with a shower rod, stab herself in the throat, shave her head and paint her face with nail polish, and then drop herself in a trash can?

This should be investigated a hate crime against a disabled person.

This is sickening beyond comprehension.

5. There must be a common thread that brought those six horribly
unblanced people together. They are an odd combination!

Excellent point. It should be deemed a hate crime.
What a horrible death. May she rest in peace.

3. This is what the death penalty is for.
It isn't about deterrence. It isn't about retribution. Some people simply need to be eradicated from this world.

6. On principle, I'm opposed to the death penalty.
But that doesn't mean I don't think some people need killing.

20. Then you are saying...
that in regards to the death penalty, you've got no principles.

22. Nah....
On principle, I don't believe any government should have the legal sanction and power to kill it's own citizens.

On the other hand, I do not mourn the deaths of pukewads such as the aforementioned.

Let's hope the evidence allows the jury to be certain about who did this and then punish them as harshly as legally possible.

10. Amen.
There are times when it is hard to believe some people are actually members of the human race.

One wants to have them excommunicated from it, anyway, or wishes there was some way.

7. This so sick. How can one human treat another like that?
I am opposed to the death penalty but in some extreme circumstances it may be warranted.

16. 5 people tortured a couple of college kids to death near where I grew up, a couple of years back.
The trials are still taking place, it still gives me chills. Only one of them has gotten the death penalty.

21. I've read about it.
Stomach-churning.

I just don't understand how a person could do that to another human being. Cases like that make me pro-DP, there's just no reason to keep those people breathing. And if you have 100% proof of guilt...flip the switch.

23. When the leadership says torture is ok, some take it as a green light.
I wonder if any of them learned their 'skills' in the WOT.
