Debate Report Card: Obama +22, Hillary +12, Edwards +9, Biden -2, Richardson -5, Kucinich -7,
Dodd -7, Gravel -15 (these numbers are the who-won-the-debate scores minus the who-lost-the-debate scores according to SurveyUSA's post-debate polling reported here: http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport.aspx?g=ba1ebc70-a734-4185-8532-2e4a9ba45d96&q=39848).

Among the Democrats only, the top three were still Obama, Hillary, and Edwards with some changes in the second tier ranking (Kucinich rising, Richardson falling):

1. Obama
2. Clinton
3. Edwards
4. Biden
5. Kucinich
6. Dodd
7. Richardson
8. Gravel

Among independent swing voters, the same three candidates finished at the top with Obama still in the lead but with Edwards ranked second ahead of number three Hillary:

1. Obama
2. Edwards
3. Clinton
4. Biden
5. Kucinich
6. Dodd
7. Richardson
8. Gravel

Among Republicans who took enough interest in our debate to watch it (a potential measure of cross-over appeal?), the rank was:

1. Edwards
2. Obama
3. Biden
4. Richardson
5. Dodd
6. Kucinich
7. Clinton
8. Gravel

3. I think Kucinich gets low scores because he shares my values which are left of the mainstream.
I wish the country embraced Dennis and his great progressive values.

4. I adore him. I didn't realize how 'left' I was until I realized
that everything the Kooch says I agree with. But I don't really consider him to be 'left.' Just RIGHT! (Obviously, as in CORRECT, not as in politically right!)

12. Because the debate in America is not honest.
Nor is taking anything from this too seriously.

18. The unvarnished truth: Regardless of his Elizabeth, DK isn't perceived as powerful, let alone sexy.

THAT'S why we use terms like "rock star" for politicians.

As for the possible follow-up of "Why Hillary, then?": She is a novelty.

23. Well to be honest, I consider DK to be an even bigger
novelty than Hillary. He is a politician who apeaks the truth no matter what the political cost. IMHO, that is an admirable quality and should be a must in a politician. Anyone who represents ethical behavior should act accordingly in terms of truth telling.

5. yes, and I suspect there will be several more polls
posted within the week.. Obama's numbers seem a bit too high and Hillary's numbers seem too low..

I'm sure another poll will have dissimilar results.

7. Kucinich came in 5th among both Democrats and Independents. I think that's pretty respectable given
that he is brutally honest about issues that many people aren't ready to hear straight talk about.

9. "Brutal honesty" is exactly what this country needs now after years
of the exact opposite from the party of 'christians', 'family values' and 'freedumb' loving hypocrites. Fifth is not bad. Thanks.

11. I don't think that poll is accurate..do you?
If the numbers were closer together..even IF Obama's numbers were higher, I could take it seriously..
But, no...I'm not convinced. The disparity in the numbers is just too great to be believed.!

I think she was so low with Republicans because apparently, by law, they have to despise Hillary, regardless.

13. Yes, it seems so.. 403 people in SC
Their first question was:

Did you listen to tonight's South Carolina presidential debate?

67% said...NO!

what kind of a poll is this anyway..so, this poll is based on popularity.

which is not good for their home state son, John Edwards.

16. No wonder I feel so lonely in America.
If you aren't enraged, you aren't paying attention. I don't live by that. I don't recommend that. But it's just what happens to me every day. When I like what is going on, I'll smile. I am not smiling.

20. Over at dkos they were disappointed
in Obama guite a bit. My reading there was that Hillary did very well, and Biden, Edwards, and Dodd really helped themselves up.
Richardson also disappointed a bit, but it's all subjective.
Gravel and Dennis are taking up space IMHO.

Dailykos post debate wrap up

22. I'm not too surprised. I have seen Obama several times and he was not at his best last night, and if
you throw out Biden's high ranking (on grounds that he's getting a bounce from a funny line), that would leave Kucinich in 4th place among Democrats and among Independents at the top of the second tier. Dennis most accurately reflects my personal values (Edwards and Obama come the next closest), but I'm not too surprised that Kucinich is finishing at the top of the second tier candidates in light of the fact that he's a good bit to the left of the average South Carolina voter.

26. You cannot throw out Biden just because of his funny line. He was good besides that.
