27. And ya gotta admit, it's pretty cool how both countries have their borders
completely lit all the way around. And in a nice, comforting shade of blue. Good choice. I like blue.

obviously way step ahead of us when it comes to lighting up their borders.

And to to think, we like to promote this country as being superior to all others when it comes to technology. Well, it's blatantly obvious from the pictures that a communist country like North Korea has pulled far ahead of us when it comes to that whole "exterior illumination of our borders" thingy. It's truly a sad day for unfettered capitalism when something like that happens. I don't know about you but I intend to write my Congressmen about the issue because this just cannot stand. I encourage others to join me in my quest for a really super cool light system that will illuminate the borders of all the states in this great country of ours. Well, except for New Jersey because, hey, New Jersey wouldn't be made even one iota cooler by having their border illuminated in really neat colors so let's just scratch them from the list.

Oh, and they should legalize acid and 'shrooms in the same bill because that would be like, WAY friggin' cool.

6. Well, we know who not to blame for global warming. What a world, though.
Here's an impoverished country with a near-primitive existence, a crazy, brutal dictator and a nuclear bomb.

As for South Korea, not that long ago, it would have looked pretty much the same. It, too, was very poor. A big reason for their rapid economic success is that instead of keeping everyone down, they chose to lift everyone up. The so called experts tell us that protecting American jobs would be bad for our economy. Looks like it worked out pretty well for South Korea.

36. I wasn't touting the rampant consumerism, if that's what you meant. I was
just trying to point out that South Korea raised its standard of living, largely, through protectionism. I believe that protectionism could save a ton of American jobs and our standard of living. The only downside, the glass half empty for those so inclined to see it that way, would be lower profits. The question for Americans is what do we stand for? A better life for Americans or more profits for corporations without any allegiance to the United States.

Dark in North Korea's case equates to misery. And the propagandists can't spin that. NK is cold, dark, and dangerous for those who want otherwise.

28. you're right, in N. Korea's case, darkness equates to misery.
surely in many parts of sub-saharan africa, also, where it's also blessedly dark at night. but the lights equate to development, and it's often very sad.

Edited on Thu Feb-11-10 10:12 PM by Subdivisions
It is a pretty bleak looking place. Streets empty of cars, in fact you don't see hardly any cars in Pyongyang despite it being a city of 3.25 million people. And what you do see is most likely military, government, and support/supply/service vehicles. Most N. Koreans get around on bicycle or on foot.
