As an advocate for a smaller and less intrusive federal government, Chiles was also known for his 1970s radio commentaries. His trade-mark sign-on "I'm Eddie Chiles, and I'm mad as hell,"

--
He owned a massive oil well servicing company. Thirty years after he helped put conservative dingbats in charge, our country is a whole heck of a lot worse off. I'm mad as hell at you, Eddie and your conservative crackpot friends.

1. "I'm mad too, Eddie!"
The most ubiquitous bumper sticker in Texas for a long while about three decades ago.

Bwaa haa haa! I'd forgotten about Eddie Chiles.

2. Are there any people in the oil industry who have made positive contributions to society?
I just have to wonder what would've happened if instead of slaughtering JFK and his brother a few Texas oilmen had met with an assassins bullet?

4. Eddie Chiles was succeeded by Ross (I'm a deficit hawk except when W.'s in office) Perot.
Old Ross railed against the deficit in 1992 because he HATED Old Man Bush and was willing to do whatever it took to see him defeated. He used the deficit as a club. However, did anyone notice that in 2004 when Jr. had blown up the surplus and already had us in deep deficit doo, Perot campaigned for him. He loved Jr. so, therefore, the deficit was of no consequence.

Now I'm sure Old Ross, if he's even coherent, will be a committed deficit hawk again.

It's called hypcrisy and it's the cancer on the Republican Party.

5. Eddie sold the Rangers to * & friends
The Western Company, Eddie founded it, was a direct competitor to Halliburton in the oil field services business. He made the mistake of hiring a Harvard MBA to run the company, no oil field experience and downsized the company into oblivion.
