Biden: Major Terror Attack on U.S. Unlikely
Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) -- Vice President Joe Biden said Wednesday that terrorists continue to try to harm the United States, but another "massive" terrorist strike like the September 11, 2001, attacks is unlikely.

"The idea of there being a massive attack in the United States like 9/11 is unlikely, in my opinion," Biden said in an interview on CNN's "Larry King Live."

Instead, groups such as al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula "have decided to move in the direction of much more small-bore but devastatingly frightening attacks," such as the failed bombing of a U.S. airliner on Christmas Day.

Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab, a Nigerian, has been accused of trying to blow up Northwest Airlines Flight 253 as it prepared to land in Detroit, Michigan, on Christmas Day.

"I think there are going to be attempts," Biden said, but he praised the successes of the U.S. security and intelligence apparatus in dealing with the threats.

Thanks for saying that Mr. Biden. Now, help get us the hell out of Afghanistan, where our reasons for being there are all facade.

5. Nothing happened on Christmas.
It wasn't a true threat. It was one idiot who didn't even know how to detonate his nuts.

21. Just mocking the person who is praising a system that didn't do what it was supposed to.
Not suggesting that it was his fault or that any system can be perfect, but rather suggesting that after such an event
one should be more humble in praising the respective system.

4. We're already under continual attack ...losing jobs to other countries.
Try going without a job and money and see what you think is terror.

6. I wish Biden would shut up sometimes.
He says things that just don't need to be said, or shouldn't be said.

I hope he's right, but why tempt fate or risk someone taking such a statement as a challenge?

I think he should have pointed out that all warnings will be investigated and dealt with responsibly and accordingly, unlike the warnings prior to 9/11, which were ignored and not acted upon. That would point out a marked contrast between the current administration and the former administration.

Nothing else really needs to be said.

I agree with the statements by previous posters regarding getting out of Afghanistan (and Iraq) and that we're under attack by other countries for our jobs.

9. Sometimes there's a reminder of why the Prez/VP lineup is the way it is.
Obama would know to never say that.

10. What happened with Biden's pre-inauguration warning?
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe Reports: Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., on Sunday guaranteed that if elected, Sen. Barack Obama., D-Ill., will be tested by an international crisis within his first six months in power and he will need supporters to stand by him as he makes tough, and possibly unpopular, decisions.

"Mark my words," the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."

13. There will be no terrorist event unless.....
If Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain happen to go into economic default (by late spring of this year)... along with the States of California and New Jersey.. people will realize that we really are in Great Depression II.

If the sleeping masses wake up.. there are going to a lot of pissed off people... which of course, will mean another false terror attack so the Bankers can cover their tracks.

14. That may be Joe's honest opinion, but saying so is bad politics
When asked a similar question during Chimpy's administration, Cheney said another terrorist strike was inevitable. That way, Bush-Cheney had cover if it did happpen but looked like miracle workers if it didn't.

Biden just set up the opposite set of expectations: If it does happen, it's all Obama-Biden's fault for underestimating the threat, and if it doesn't happen, it's no thanks to them, since they said themselves there was no immediate threat.
