They want to frighten Americans. Americans will vote for them if they are frightened. And the best way to get these stories of radicals wanting to attack Americans is to torture them. That's why Bush did it, too.

8. Racism probably has something to do with it.
18 months ago I probably wouldn't have said that, but seeing the Tea Party guys and some of the BS that has flowed from GOP members in the last year and a half, there probably is a racial element to it.

We all know that the US will never prosecute Bush and there is only the slimmest of chances anyone else will.

Their mindset is essentially authoritarian, and they can't conceive of being anywhere but the power seat, so the more narrowly they draw their circle of ethical concern, the more control they imagine they have.
