Yeah, that pretty much is the logic of the righties, the global warming deniers, and those who get a paycheck from ExxonMobil.

Just think about that for a second.

6. Speaking of Greenland
http://sermitsiaq.gl/klima/article110047.ece?lang=EN

Fresh temperature data from the Danish Meteorological Society confirm what many Greenlanders can already tell you – this winter has been a warm. January has gone on record as the warmest ever many places in southern Greenland.

“There’s no doubt that this winter has generally been warmer than normal in Greenland,” said DMI senior meteorologist John Cappelen.

Other parts of Greenland have also experienced warmer than normal temperatures, but southern Greenland has seen the largest temperature variations. In January the towns of Qaqortoq, Prince Christian Sound and Paamiut all broke temperature records.

Cappelen said there was no explanation for the continued warm weather over the country since December.

12. "Is carbon dioxide a greenhouse gas?"
Is the first question I ask people who do believe in the theory that human activity is resulting in global warming.

"What is snow? And which atmosphere holds more water vapor, a colder or warmer one?"

Is the first questions I ask someone who states that local snow events disprove global warming.

In fact, the increased seasonal precipitation, including our Anton Chigurh (my name for this winter, I ride a bike year round) is consistent with the global warming climate models. For this region (upper midwest) more precipitation, but a shift to more in the winter and spring, with dryer summers. This results in A) 50% more runoff (re: floods) and B) less net moisture for plants/crops during growing season (dryer/warmer summers).

As someone who works professionally in the field of hydrology/hydraulics, something is happening. One river I have worked on (bank stability) has had, if I remember correctly, six 50 yr. floods in the last 18 years. There are good gage records on this stream, but are these records (that are used to estimate the 50 yr. frequency discharge) now from a different population due to global warming? Yes, a 50 year flood means a 1/50 chance of exceedence any given year, so lighting can, indeed, strike twice, but six times?

I attended a conference last spring where there were a number of presentations by academics looking at historic gage (streamflow) and rainflow statistics. All of these analysis indicate skew (things are changing). But in true academic fashion, none wanted to make the definitive call.

I, however, am a practicing Engineer, and I will make the call. Change is happening, now, and we are betting the farm that we can handle it. What if we can't?

Look for Iowa to be in the news this spring, just like in '08.

11. Let's stop calling it global warming and say climate change instead
That term "global warming" should never have been started.
