"They're angry at government and the banks" is IMHO the most fallacious myth about the teabaggers
Edited on Wed Feb-10-10 08:23 PM by Hello_Kitty
This notion that teabaggers are angry at Wall Street and that this is why progressives should try to find common ground with them because of it needs to be eradicated. Recall that the catalyst that propelled this "movement" to the national stage was Rick Santelli's rant that went viral. What was Santelli's rant about? Was it about how greedy overpaid hucksters brought down the world economy? Was it a cry for more regulation over financial institutions? Um, no. He railed against "losers" who bought too much house and were getting bailed out by the gubmint. Remember? It was boilerplate Welfare Queen dog whistling. He became an instant hero to the mouthbreathers searching for a reason to yell and scream about a black man and his family living in the White House*. I actually dropped by the first Tea Party event, on April 15th last year, in Phoenix. I talked to several people there. Not a peep about greedy bankers and TARP but plenty about socialism and communism and ACORN and Barney Frank and their hard earned dollars going to lazy mooches.

Edit: Hit post before finishing that sentence. Thanks to proud2blibKansan for giving me the perfect words.

2. A black man (and his black family) is living in the White House
I honestly believe that is all it took for the majority of these fruitloops.

5. Pretty much sums it up...
These mouth breathers are racists of the first order. Gone are the white sheets and burning crosses, replaced by cutesy colonial garb and Don't Tread on Me flags - but still recognized for the dog whistle symbolism it is.

4. Their "reasons" are thinly veiled bovine fecal matter.
They are racists, who are angry that a person of color is president. Plain and simple. How many people of color do you see in this fad? How many are their leaders?
