7. There have been great collections of toons before...
but I don't think I've ever seen one quite as excellent in every detail as this one! Exquisite, edgy political humor, beautifully drawn and rendered.

Thanks so much for putting it together for us, n2doc! :toast: :applause:

I really love being able to send DU thread links to friends to share the toon threads (and others I know they'll actually read). A nice byproduct of that practice, I've discovered, is that they tend to want to return to DU after they've seen even one thread!

And then ... the miracle occurs ... and their eyes are opened wider, their ears grow keener ... cobwebs of confusion in their minds fall away ... and their willingness to believe (if it remains at all yet) any of Bu$hCo's LIES seems to disappear completely!

Toons are a great way to "hook" people, too -- for their own good, of course. So are astonishing threads like the one recently with the LTTE by a woman named Connie who thought the "liberal Congress" had made global warming worse by moving up the date of the switch to daylight savings time! They added more sunshine and thus HEAT to the planet by doing that, she complained! Ought to have done a little research before they did such a stupid thing, she opined!

Stuff like that ya just can't make up, and I am thankful (and thinkful) every day for my fellow DUers who find and share the REAL news, and for the admins and mods who created this wonderful place and keep it running. I honestly wonder what I would do without DU now!

Now about this bunch of toons in particular ... is it just me, or are the artists who come up with these great little capsules of commentary on current issues drawing Chimpy much smaller, uglier, vicious and insane-looking these days???

I noticed it a few toons down in the OP, and then saw it again and again as I viewed them all. They've got him looking, for the most part, teeny weeny -- nay, miniscule! -- next to other figures that represent actual humans or issues. His teeth look jagged or pointy and are bared like a rabid wild animal's snarl, and his facial expressions in the toons are just horrid -- so like he is in real life!

That is, if you could call what he lives "real life" at all.

More and more, astute cartoonists these days are nailing this guy and his entire cohort of lying criminals with their brilliant artistic offerings, it seems to me. I have to wonder, since I don't receive or read any print media (well, except for some online versions): is this collection truly representative of the broader whole that's out there?

Whether it is or not, I swear it's truly delightful and gratifying to see that Bu$hCo is no longer being "cut slack" or given the benefit of the doubt -- on ANY issues. Even very early in a news story's timeline, they are seeing through the lies and catapulted propaganda and pegging it all for the total BS it is.

Wish everyone had done it sooner, but hey, it's still nice to see how completely they have him dead to rights now.

Hmmm ... "dead to rights." Now THAT's an interesting turn of a phrase, given the fact that while this sorry mental case of a war-and-domestic criminal who lives in denial, hubris, and bullheadedness remains in office, he continues to kill off our rights, one by one, bit by chiseled bit, as much as he possibly can....

It's impossible to pick one favorite out of this excellent group of toons, but I'd have to cast my vote for the big yellow "Support Our Troops" ribbon that has "Extended Tour of Duty" sewed onto one end. Or the other yellow "Support Our Troops" ribbon with Chimpy's big red "VETO" stamped right over it.

Such simple visuals are powerful indeed; and even a Repug reader who is trying to avoid looking at the toons cannot miss these. Also I like the one where the pretzeldent is stabbing a soldier in the back -- literally -- as he spouts his traitorous lies.

I believe people are actually getting it that this is precisely what the dim son is doing! By staying his stubborn course in Iraq and then cutting veterans' benefits and healthcare quality and access after they return home, he fails and betrays them on every issue, with every lie he spouts that USES them for his own vile political purposes....

And hey, everyone (who is still reading this), don't forget to check out our own terrific DUer friend Rad Fringe's most excellent toons -- and don't forget Swamp Rat's wonderfully lurid and compelling graphics, too!

(Edited to get it right, since I saw fit to share my thoughts on the toons in some detail today! ;))

11. Thanks for the thoughtful reply!
I think you are right about how Shrub is drawn, I have seen it before and especially in the last year, as his poll numbers dwindle, the way he is drawn gets smaller and more distorted.

Toons, I think , are one of the last bastions of progressive thought in the media. I don't have a clue as to how many of these get out in print, but I am constantly amazed at the creativity and productivity of the Toon Artists. I usually start off by thinking, "I'll probably only see a few interesting ones, maybe I will wait a few days and save them up" but nearly always I get sucked in and find dozens of worthy ones. Every Day! RJ Matson alone I think does more than a toon a day.

Love Rad Fringe and Swampy. I wish I had a fraction of their artistic talent, it is easy to think of an idea once in a while, but oh so much harder to do it on a regular basis, let alone visualize it in a way that makes the idea come to life.

It is also interesting to see what resonates and what doesn't. For example, there were very few toons on the subject of Edwards' house, but tons, and several from normally left leaning Artists, on his hair. Go figure. Same with the Supreme court decision on Partial Birth abortions. And with Senator Reid's comments, there are some really nasty ones, always on the theme of "waving a white flag". I don't post those kinds of toons unless I am feeling in a cantankerous mood, and then I do so in a thread called "the Anti-Toons". But probably best for all's blood pressure that I don't do so.

The issues that have resonated the strongest lately:
Walter Reed (almost all Artists in agreement, even the RW ones)
Surge
Gonzalez (again, almost all in agreement)
Virginia Tech Massacre (but split between RW and left Artists as to whom is to blame and what to do about it, sort of like here at DU).

I did mention productivity? Here's 3 more:

So true.

How so much of a situation can be packed into one frame still amazes me.
