How Dick Armey got Screwed by the Tea Party Convention.
The Tea Party is a “grass roots” movement manufactured by Dick Armey’s Freedom Works to add to the $ brazillions he’s making lobbying and manipulating otherwise innocent political neophytes.

But ya’ know, the way I see it Dick (ever notice how some people wear the name Dick real well?) lost money on the Tea Party Convention.

Reports are that 600 people attended at $549 plus a $10 processing fee. That included the banquet and Sara Palin’s speech. Some paid only $349 plus the $10 fee just to see Sister Sara, but eh, just figure everybody at $560 a head. That’s $336,000 in round numbers. That doesn’t count the fru-fru and do-das like American flags made in China pawned off on the attendees as memorabilia, so lets add $10 for each of the brave 600 for a total of $342,000.

Sara collected $115,000 or there-a-bouts leaving $227,000 to rent the Gaylord (don’cha just love that location for the tea bagger convention?) Hotel for three days and prepare the banquet as well as all the direct mail and other promotion for the event.

If this was supposed to be a for-profit shindig it seems to have failed pretty badly.

Maybe Daddy Dick will bail out on the Tea Partiers . . .

2. It wasn't Dick Armey's faction that organized the convention...
but rather some new exploitative opportunist-- the guy who tried to trademark the name "tea party..." Greed has even sidelined the ultimate grubber, Armey.

7. Ah, on further reflection you are right! My thought tho is that Dick
Armey's creation of another money making "movement" turned out to be a dud for him.

All that effort to build an un-organization and no money to be made. So sad for the Dick.

3. Thanks for doing the quick math

I'd been thinking that this didn't really add up financially, but hadn't taken the time to sus out the numbers.

"They" sure got a butt-load of free promotion, millions of dollars worth, from the networks though.

btw, I know Dick Armey's daughter and she is very much a progressive.

4. were there sponsors?
I hope he lost buckets of money, but somehow I doubt it. Often, the registration fee is calculated to break even on costs and the money is supposed to come from sponsors. Also, there was probably a separate high dollar event with Sarah.

6. He should change his name. Seriously.
To Dick Battalion, or Dick Brigade, or Dick Platoon, or Dick Company.........

His is no army, that's for sure.
