I told them that the candidates they support are too conservative for me and I will directly support the individual candidates that more closely reflect my political beliefs. Besides, this year I cannot afford to donate money since I have none. If I am capable, I will volunteer for a campaign but so far no one in my area has an active campaign for me to work for.

Organizing for America wants me to volunteer for them, but I just could not make myself support their efforts to push the flawed health insurance reform package. SO I sat that one out.

Luckily Barbara Boxer has been aggressively raising funds for awhile now, as a preemptive measure. I donate directly, too, if I'm going to donate at all.

When I get calls from the DNC and the DSCC and the DCCC, I tell 'em the same thing - that I worked like a dog and gave til it hurt in 2008 to make sure the Dems got their solid majorities and the White House. And what have they done with it but cave to the LOSERS from morning til night. I tell them that constitutes a very poor return on my investment, and I can't afford risky investments anymore! And I close by saying - "besides, I only buy backbone these days."
