Any thoughts on why it seems more Democrats are pulling for the Saints tonight
rather than the Colts?

Is it seeing the underdogs win?

Is it the recent history of NOLA and just plain wishing good on them?

Or do we just love that cool Cajun accent and get a kick out of saying "Who dat!" in our best incarnation of Beudreaux? (Did I spell that name correctly?)

No matter who you're pulling for tonight, I wish you an exciting game and no injuries for either team.

1. Nawlins have been a long time trying to catch a break. This would
be a wonderful thing for the Saints and NO..

2. Why would any Democrat cheer for a team from Indiana?
A state where Evan Bayh, Lee Hamilton, and Tim Roemer are considered the "best" we can get?

12. Yeah, it's true that Mary Landrieu isn't any better.
Of course when we get a team to the Super Bowl from an actual Democratic state, odds are they'll have Diebold referees deployed in the game to make sure they don't win (see Super Bowl XL) :evilfrown:

13. But Nawlins is BLUE baby! Very wonderful, multicultural city that was traumatized intentionally
by the right wing mafia in the aftermaths of Katrina.

6. Because we're a bunch of homers
I pull for the Panthers because they're the closest pro team, even though they represent Charlotte, where so many decisions that fucked our economy were made.

23. O)r maybe "gomers."
I'm the same way. I usually pull for the Falcons as I'm close to Atlanta but live in AL where I don't even need to go in regards to political malfeasance.

3. I always root for the underdog.
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 06:05 PM by Lyric
Unless the "underdog" happens to be a team that's usually a really obnoxious "top dog", like the Yankees/Red Wings/Cowboys/etc. Then I'll pull for whichever team is playing against them. :D

Edit: This is assuming that we're talking about games in which none of "my" teams are playing. If the Mountaineers/Steelers/Penguins/Carolina Hurricanes are playing, then I'm pulling for THEM.

10. because it would be good for NOLA.
and because the Saints have never even been to a Super Bowl, let alone won one... while the Colts have won two. It's always nice to see a team that has never won the Super Bowl, win one.

11. I'm not much on football
but I'm rooting for the Saints because they're definitely the underdog and because of all that New Orleans has been through since Katrina. I can't speak for any other Democrat, but I suspect those factors play a role in their choice of which team to support.

14. NOLA was America's first multicultural melting pot...
...Indianapolis is somewhat "whitebread."

NOLA has been one of the few remaining Democratic strongholds in the South, hence the Bushies' determination to destroy that. Their entire culture, one of the most distinct ones in the world, has been a product of their cosmopolitan roots. Indianapolis is famous for cars that race in a circle.

The Saints are led by a QB who battled injury and odds to get where he is. The Colts' QB is a child of privilege whose family connections and perks gave him every advantage a QB could have.

Louisiana's most notorious governor earned that because he was had socialist and populist tendencies that rubbed against the grain of right wing America. Indiana's most notorious governor was an open KKK member.

19. I'm sure you're not the only one.
But the question was raised after being mentioned by talking heads on CNN & MSNBC during the past few days. If I lived closer to Indianapolis I might very well be pulling for Mr. Manning's considerable talents instead of Mr. Breese's.

20. I thought the game was 1-3 PM PST (can you tell I don't watch football?),
so I went to Trader Joe's about an hour ago, thinking it would be empty with everybody home watching the game. It was a fricking zoo.

Now I know why.

Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 06:58 PM by DebbieCDC
Also, for me personally (although I think Peyton Manning is a great QB), I lived in DC when Robert Irsay moved the Colts out of Balmer in the dead of night and remember the outrage and hurt of the Colt's fans.

Which do you choose?

There's no contest.
