Freepers discuss the Redneck Teleprompter
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2446255/posts

Basically, reading notes off your hand is cooler than reading a teleprompter while giving a speech.

36. Makes 'em feel better about being stupid, I guess.
I always thought you looked up to someone better, smarter, and more accomplished than you - as an inspiration to lift yourself UP. And to reach HIGHER. Not stoop lower because it's too much trouble to have to waste time on that pointy-headed lib'rul elitist book-larnin' stuff. Feel better about your inadequacy! As a matter of fact, embrace it loudly, in public, and with PRIDE!!!!!

67. the best teachers in the world are not ones you'll be friends forever
sad but true. :P although some I've know over half my life and disagree with their politics. I'm not necessarily close friends with some of my past teachers. Both from Private schools. Bethany Lutheran Church in Mankato MN other the other hand has a nasty tendency to curb ones speech. Although I wouldn't go so far as drawing a naked female baby there and calling her the next messiah. Like painting a big target one oneself. No not that kind of speech, doing that and expecting to get away with it tramples BLC's speech.

But indeed I didn't elect someone I could have a drink with (I don't drink beer!!) mixed drinks maybe. citrus mixes :) But not a help! I've fallen !!! and I can't reach my BEER!!

Although I'd probably keep the kids way way away from John Boner. Probably never see them again. John McCain maybe, but not John. He's a true prick.

To: kristinn

Now....is this better or worse than being at a complete rhetorical loss without a teleprompter?

When he faced down the entire Republican caucus in an unscripted (big word, look it up, Freeperati) discussion. He ate their lunch, drank their milkshake, made them eat dirt, then ask for more.

to even use a teleprompter and a real grasp of what you are reading so that you can continue in case the prompter goes out.

8. Amazing. Simply amazing.
There are 90 comments right now and not one of these Freepers has the stones to admit that gee, it looks just a teeny-weeny bit middle-school to write crib notes on your HAND, for God's sake. Especially when the crib notes consist of the same simple-minded crap she's been peddling for months and months now!

There is not a trace of self-awareness in these Freeper comments, no ability to realize how this looks to thinking people. Most of the commenters change the subject to Obama, evidently getting a warm, secure feeling (not unlike that of a full diaper) from repeating over and over and over and over until even they must be sick of it, say it with me folks, OBAMA CAN'T SAY A ****ING WORD WITHOUT A TELEPROMPTER. They repeat this obvious lie as if it were a prayer or a holy chant that will ward off the Evil Eye or the Devil or something.

Naturally, there is total denial in the Freeper comments of Obama's performance before the republicans last week, in which he was articulate and clear, off the cuff, no Teleprompter, for 90 minutes of hostile questioning - or 70 minutes if you watched on False News, which cut him off early so they could start talking about how stupid and inarticulate he is before he was even done.

I am simply aghast at the idiocy of conservatives like those on FR and False News. It is beyond belief.

60. Amen. You know, looking at threads like those...
I realize that - save for some of the more extreme cases of people here posting *nothing* but negative stuff about Obama et. al. - DU has some pretty good debate even about our own candidates and leaders and their positions. I think that's a good thing. We aren't afraid or unwilling to criticize "our own" when they fuck up or do something shitty.

70. St. Ronald was never without his 3x5 cards.
Edited on Mon Feb-08-10 06:44 AM by mwb970
I remember watching his appearances, and every single time he would take out a pack of index cards and set them on the podium before beginning his speech, no matter how short or perfunctory the speech was. I remember wondering at the time if he would be able to say anything at all without those cards. He was an actor, after all, and he was used to having everything he said written out in advance by someone else.

Speaking of that, in Palin's famous debut speech at the republican convention, did she not read someone else's words off a Teleprompter? And do her worshippers not claim that this was the best speech ever given by anyone ever?

How do these people keep themselves from noticing their own hypocrisy and inconsistency?

I’ve heard of speaking off the cuff, but….

Now we know why with Palin the gloves are always off.

No wonder Sarah Palin quit the governorship of Alaska, it was cold there and she had to wear gloves.

Ok, I have to ask. Is it allowed to put answers to "literacy test" on #telepalmer when voting?

Really, if you need notes to answer "what are your top 3 agenda items"...

Sarah knows politics like the back.. uh, palm of her hand.

teabaggers pay Palin $100,000 for a hand job.

37. ROFL - Even last November, the Republican crowd...
... was rationalizing about Obama's teleprompter use. Despite the use of teleprompters by pols for many, many years -- and despite the fact that W even used one for the famous "Mission Accomplished" speech -- some folks at GunBroker (can we call them Freepers, too?) snootily determined that if Obama is as smart as everyone says he is, why does he need teleprompters?

The first guy in the exchange below at least seems to be cognizant of reality. The second one is spin-doctoring himself in his response.

Interesting, Conservatives never mentioned Bush using a TelePrompter during his administration. When I read about things like this, it's just another indication of why Republicans no longer control government.

64. Let them brag about this one
http://www.keepbusy.net/play.php?id=bill-oreilly-vs-teleprompter

Maybe they should have written on his hand so he could understand it.

57. I suspect there's a difference....
I suspect the male freeper/teabaggers don't feel as DUers do.... wish that some of Obama's quick intelligence could rub off on us, but instead wish that Caribou Barbies palm would rub them off.

58. "at least she doesn't have to have a teleprompter"
No you ignorant assholes. She reads from sheets of paper in front of her and her redneck teleprompter.

The ratwingers are so stupid it's pathetic.

62. I don't suppose they noticed
That when Obama was taking questions from the Republicans in Congress for 90 minutes in Baltimore, he didn't have a teleprompter, or any notes scrawled on the palm of his hand, or any strange bumps under his jacket.

No, it was just Obama. Unscripted he is way more articulate than McCain, Palin or Bush any day.

Jackpine Radical: Her backers put (the notes on her hand) there deliberately to be noticed, in a desperate effort to give the illusion that she's literate.

MilesColtrane: Or, that's she's folksy.

"Oh, look. She doesn't use those fancy telepromptathingies. She just jots down a reminder like I do on the way to the store."

"She's ONE OF US."

*shudder*

72. Bush wasn't' the sharpest knife in the drawer either
These wack jobs embrace stupidity probably because it makes them feel good about their own ignorance.

74. credit to the Freepers for coining the term 'Redneck Teleprompter', at least.
Though the HuffPost update frames the problem more clearly, that she apparently needed these basic "core principles" written down so that she would remember them.

75. One sad aspect of the whole Freeper thread is seeing their cognitive dissonance ...
... deriding Obama's use of a teleprompter while having to ignore the ass-kicking Obama laid down on the GOP Q&A, recently. I can't imagine the disaster that would be Sarah Palin in a similar situation, having to face a Q&A with (actual) Progressives.

85. This would be a total non-story...
...had Palin simply prepared some notes on paper as every other goddamned politician does. These would not have shown up on HD camera, and would not invoke the image of a child cheating on a test.

I guess there's that mavericky thing goin' there, workin' against her reputation for doin' things different, also.
