Dr. Margaret Flowers and Dr. Carol Paris keep getting arrested to get real healthcare reform on the table.

The http://www.correntewire.com/4_don%E2%80%99t_try_alone">video here is simply inspiring!

The former will be liveblogging today at http://www.correntewire.com at 1PM ET.

Note: posted after this got 2 recs and zero replies, while probably several hundred posts were written here about the party that would easily be kept out of office if the Dems really fixed health-care access.

Our healthcare system is killing people and bankrupting the country. Is that not clear to you?

You don't need to lecture me on the health care crisis.

You posted a thread with a misleading headline. You are the one not being very clear.

5. My first post on this was titled...
"Fantastic, must-watch video of health-care reform heroines & live blog at 1PM ET!!!"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x7659267

It received zero comments, while countless threads raged on about the ex-Governor of Alaska and the over-reported gatherings of rightwingers.

Naturally, it's DUers' right to spend days and nights propping up Palin as a significant figure while the administration flounders and sells out. I thought it was worth a second try to draw some attention to the heroism of Drs. Flowers and Paris.

What is misleading about my headline?

1. DU lately is fixated 24/7 on Palin and "teabaggers"
2. Real healthcare reform is a matter of life and death, and it's been shunted aside by the administration, by Congress, by the media, and by progressives who have allowed themselves to be distracted by the "public option" trojan pony and other misguided attempts to pass something, anything.

It's hard to fathom why one would think that what's called for here is snarking about the willingness of doctors, nurses, and other citizens to get arrested in order to deliver a vital message that can save lives and our economy.

6. Your title says 'life and death' and then you mentioned the doctors getting arrested
It wasn't the least bit clear.

Now if you really think that any health care reform will be passed if an idiot like Sarah Palin gains any more power, you haven't been paying attention.

7. If you think that any GOOD healthcare reform will be passed
if we sit back and let this administration and Congress allow Big Pharma and Big Insurance to write the bills, you haven't been paying attention.

10. What's your beef, then?
Was it really too hard to understand that real healthcare reform is a matter of life and death, and that's what these doctors are standing up for?

Was it some kind of semantic sin to expect people (and thanks for the recs, all!) to follow that?

Or have I offended you in some other way?

And, the important focus should be how Palin said this nation needs some divine intervention. Good God!

13. That was pretty clever.
They succeeded in getting way more attention than they would've if the hotel guy had just left 'em alone. I don't know if just anyone could handle that as gracefully as they did, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

23. Nice - handcuffed to the wall ...
http://www.correntewire.com/national_medicare_all_campaign

By margaret_flowers on Sun, 02/07/2010 - 1:53pm

"Carol Paris wrote a really nice piece about the civil disobedience experience which is posted on the pnhp.org website and other places on the web.

My first time getting arrested was very scary but I was with people who had done it before which helped. It's mostly fear of the unknown.

For me, once I made the commitment that this was what needed to be done and that I was going to do it, I just went with it. Those of us in the Baucus 8 spoke and met beforehand so that we knew what we were going to do. So I just concentrated on that. We were arrested by the Capitol Police, handcuffed and taken t Homeland Security. They took all of our belongings away and handcuffed us to the wall. It was very cold! At one point we were allowed to be in a cell - the 4 women together - and that was nice to be able to move around. We were released after about 7 or 8 hours and we were mostly hungry and thirsty.

The second time I was in Baltimore (last Oct) and we were taken to Central Booking, which was a very unpleasant experience, for 12 hours. But we survived it. I was worried because I was violating my probation and I thought they would keep me but they didn't.

And last week we were worried because of the secret service. The police took us down to the station and then we were questioned by secret service but it wasn't too bad and they released us with a ticket..."

30. Hard to assume that at this point, given for example...
... the secret deal with Big Pharma, the Daschle house-parties that specifically included single-payer, censoring his own family doctor from speaking about single-payer at the "town halls," letting Max Baucus be the hatchet man, and never using the bully pulpit nor his rhetorical gifts the promote real reform, etc.

Nonetheless, we can agree that "make him do it" is the right way to play it.

Thanks!

36. Tried to rec this important thread..
.. but apparently miss the "use by" date. I'm right with you, regarding the Caribou Bimbo hype. Enough already! How many times do these people think we need to have it pointed out to us that this isn't exactly the freakin' rocket surgeon, her adoring Teabagger fans think she is. Do they think we're as easily duped as the "guns, gawd, and evil gov'nt" crowd?

What the Queen of the Great White North seems to get, that the Obama Administration doesn't get (as opposed to the Obama Campaign, which did get) is that there is a building, seething anger on Main Street about We the People getting fucked over by the fatcats. That she lies about the real cause, doesn't matter in the least, IT'S ABOUT THE POPULIST MESSAGE AND NOTHING BEING DONE FOR WE THE PEOPLE.

Whining about "the Senate rules" being "insurmountable barricades" is seen for what is, just another lousy fucking excuse to do nothing. Harry Reid should have been dumped a long time ago, he is completely fucking worthless, unless of course, serving the corporations instead of We the People, is the real agenda of the administration. And that looks more and more like the reality, everyday.

too many DUers seem obsessed with this marginal unemployed politician. I agree that HCR is an important life & death issue. But FYI, 9 minutes of two activists arguing with a cop -- not inspiring. Just saying.
