Did you know OFA was part of the DNC?
I didn't until I read this Rolling Stone article last night. I feel sucker punched.

1. Who and where did you think OFA sprouted from?

I didn't read the article, but to think it evolved from Obama fans is pretty naive. There had to be a central cog to organize. And Howard Dean sowed the seeds.

2. Actually, it was the Obama election organization that was an entity
on its own until after the election when Plouffe walked away and handed it over to the DNC. You ought to read the article . . . it's disturbing.

3. Nah, I don't want to feel sucker-punched. And
I don't need to read another article about how Obama failed yet again. He took office and had a few other things on his plate, so I won't chastise him for handing it over to another entity.

4. What bothers me the most is the DNC funded anti-healthcare reform
ads for Ben Nelson. How does the Obama "change" machine fit into politics as usual? It doesn't.

5. Yes, I did know. And their effectiveness has been hampered by rolling them into the DNC. nt

6. It has been an unmitigated disaster
They should scrap it and funnel the money back into the 50 state organizers.

7. So basically, it's Plouffe's fault policy changed 180 degrees after the election? Yeah. Right.
To me it reads like a transparent attempt to make Plouffe the scapegoat for Obama'a policy decisions.

10. he left after the election
I just finished reading his book and the reason he left was that his wife was due with their 2nd child around the same time of the election. He rightfully wanted to take some time to be a father to his kids.

8. Interesting article but a little thin on analysis...
The reason OFA was sidelined was the fear that they (voters) might actually push the WH and congress into actual health care reform. Progressives needed to be neutered - no cry for single payer, public option, drug negotiations, etc. The base had to be silenced by disorganization. It worked.

The deals with big pharma and insurance companies had already been struck and the WH thought they could drag the stupid health insurance bill over the line with the 60 senate Dems and the base wouldn't notice they had been had and that the bill totally sucked. It might yet pass but who cares - it has no teeth.

9. I know they spam my mailbox almost daily.
Email and snail mail.

And I never give 'em money, DFA is the only place I give any money too, Howard is the only politican I would trust to give me the correct time in a clock shop.

11. Yeah, I'm outraged!
What a travesty! :wow:

Although I must say, most folks have been panning and dissing
both the DNC and OFA about the same for nearly the entire 12 months
that Obama's been in office, so I'm not sure why it makes a difference
how they are set up.

Everytime I read about the DNC and/or OFA here, it's always someone proudly saying....
I've unsubscribed....
I told them what they could do with their emails...
I'm not giving them another penny...
etc., etc., etc....

That's partly why the Republicans are winning the PR war,
and will probably win a lot more seats than they deserve come November...
cause while we complaint to no end about everything and anything;
the GOP are working their memes with their Corporate media onto the public.
