I am awake at 4 AM and at the computer because........
we're in the middle of some of the heaviest rains I've seen here in many years. Unfortunately, it's about to hit the Station Fire area. Mudslides are imminent, I suspect (not near me on the flat here).

1. Good morning kestrel
:hi: I lived in CA (Ventura County) and (San Diego County) for a total of 13.5 years. Both times we were there during drought years. I can only imagine what is happening there now.

We are missing the blizzard to some extent here in northern PA but my husband is heading out to blow snow now. Must be 8" on the ground so far - not too bad.

3. We got the better part of a year's worth of rain in one week and have just
dried out a tad from that. Getting to work this AM will be fun. We do street flooding like nobody else here. Not lakes, but roaring rivers.

12. The hillsides go brown on May 1 regardless of how much rain we get.....
More rain just means more dry brush and grass to burn come summer.......

9. Advice from NH...
It's usually a lot easier to blow 8" of snow three times than it
is to blow 24" of snow once, even if it means that two of those
blowings take place while it's snowing.

It's especially true if all you have is a puny electric snowthrower
that only takes about an 8" high bite with each pass ;), but even
the neighbors with the big, muscular two-stage gasoline blowers
use this same philosophy; remember, the pile at the end of the
driveway left by the snowplow is probably two or three times
higher and a lot denser!

Two exceptions to the general rule:

o If it's windy as hell, there's no point blowing the snow; it'll
just drift back.

o If freezing rain is forecast later, don't blow the snow. You'd
rather clear the layer *ATOP* the snow than a layer of ice
glued-like-epoxy onto your driveway.

10. (There's been a long-standing bug in the DU board software that occasionally creates duplicate or...
...even triplicate postings.)

7. Yup, Heavy Rain Here Too
Up here in the San Bernardino Mountains it's pouring with heavy winds. Woke me up at 3:00a.m. and at the computer like you Kestrel.
Always worry about trees toppling down besides sliding hillsides. :-(
