NH Tea Party Coalition heads explode outside of Obama event.

This happened on Tuesday. I just found their website. Chuckles aplenty.

1. "Two hundred tea party protesters"?

I was there! (Unpaid, BTW, Tea Party!)

There were probably 150 people all together, split roughly 50-50
between our side and theirs.

I'd comment at their site, but notice that, in their usual brave fashion,
"comments are closed".

The protest event took place at a traffic circle just away from the high
school where Obama spoke. And actually, some folks that I talked to
were bused in from a remote parking lot because there was officially
"NO PARKING" anywhere near the President and the small parking lot
of the church just off the traffic circle was jammed full. Me, I just
walked down the hill from my house to the traffic circle and walked
back home up the hill afterwards.

2. Looks like about 50 people

These assholes lie as easily as they breathe.

3. Their behavior is their standard behavior:

o Lie about their numbers (exagerating)

o Lie about our numbers (diminish)

o Lie about our behavior (claiming we were rude thugs)

o Lie about their own behavior ("No, we didn't have a guy with a bull-horn yelling at everyone.")

And their echo chamber does it every time, and the media conveniently
believes their lies every time.

4. They lie about their motive too

They lost an election to a black man.

6. I'm glad you were there, Tesha!

I don't know how many more teabaggers I can stand. I always tell myself that I'll appear to be calm and collected and if asked a question to answer calmly. I fail every time. Usually, somebody has to step in. How do you answer hatred?

8. I've discovered a five-pointed strategy that works quite well.

1. Know your facts really well. You're here on DU, so the odds
are high that you've got this one covered.

2. Recognize the canned talking points being parroted from
Faux Noise, Rush, Glenn Beck, and the rest of the Right
Wing's contract noise machine. Again, you've probably
got this covered.

3. Find someone to talk to who is willing to converse reasonably.
It isn't important that they agree with you, at least not right
away, it's just important that you can have an actual conversation
that won't degenerate into "Well F*CK YOU TOO!" ;).

4. Get them to agree to any one point. "Don't you feel everyone
should have access to some sort of health care, even if it's
provided through a private insurance plan?" "Don't you
think everyone should be able to practice their religion?"
"Well I agree that a strong national defense is important,
but our military is kind of bogged-down abroad right
now, aren't they?"

Once you get agreement *ON ANYTHING*, you've established
some common ground with this person and they will feel it too.
At that point, the conversation almost *CAN'T* deteriorate into
"Well F*CK YOU TOO!" because you've both established that you're
reasonable people.

Now comes the secret of the recipe: The fifth point.

5. As loonies come along, make sure they see you constructively
engaging with the reasonable person you've won over in point four.
The loonies will parrot some idiotic talking point that they heard on
Fox, and you'll either respond directly to the loon with some very
measured rebuttal or you'll just keep engaging the reasonable
person and make your rebuttal *TO THEM*. Either way, the loon's
head will eventually explode when they realize that repeating the
same idiotic point over and over again isn't going to sway anyone,
even the reasonable person you've been engaging *FROM THE
OTHER SIDE*.

All we need are more and more people who can see the common
ground!
