1. Is it a classic Nor'easter or a garden variety snowdump?
BTW, here in southeast Michigan, no stranger to winter, we haven't had much more than 5 or 6 inches total snowfall for the entire winter.

30. Not your garden variety but a snow dump for sure
It has already started. Just checked out my patio and huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge flakes are falling. They have now changed it to say we will get 30 inches here in Annapolis.

31. DC is already shut down, and the snow just started sticking
This is almost a 100% certainty at this point. The forecast for DC right now is 20-30 inches, They keep raising the forecast every time I listen. This will be the 2nd major snowstorm of the season for us, the other was in December. We have had a snowstorm almost every week, we had 6 inches on Tuesday and only 1-3 had been predicted. We are in a very strange pattern right now. More snow predicted on Tuesday. We are hunkering down here.

42. Hold-in-place is the only remedy
Layer clothing, stay at home..prepare for power outages

for a few days, people can live on peanut butter & jelly & water..

got fancy stuff in the freezer? cook it NOW, while you can..share with neighbors..

have a snowed-in party

do NOT barbeque indoors (amazing how many people still don't know this)

blankets...sweaters....socks...

yummy home made cinnamon rolls..leave the oven door open after they are done.."free heat"..and put a pan of water in that oven for a little extra moisture in the house:)

ladder..(to get snow off a slightly sloped roof)

monopoly...sorry..parcheesi...cards...books..

keep a faucet open a little (don;t want the pipes to freeze)

ahhh the memories of "snowed in" all come back to me:)

7. Hee, I lived in DC during the mid-late 80s
There was one winter (87-88?) we had three huge snowfalls in succession. Each in the 15-20 inch mark. Being from NC, I'd never seen that much snow all at once before. We were living in a 3rd floor walk up. Not pretty.

13. I lived in the upper part of lower Michigan for many years.
The rule was that if we got more than 80" of snow a year, the town got extra money for snow removal from the state. We almost always got the extra money.

8. the forecast is for 20 - 30 inches here in the DC suburbs
This is our third snowstorm in a week. We generally get very little snow.

Our 20" storm before Christmas was #7 all-time snowfall.

It has been snowing for several hours, but is just beginning to stick. It is supposed to snow for the next 30 hours or so.

Editing to say I mean for the Congress, and such. The good people of the District and nearby areas do not deserve a hail of frogs at all. May they drive safely, and remain cozy.

And there have been several smaller storms since then. It is a very unusual patter for us, we generally don't get much snow here. Now, they are saying that this could be the snowiest winter ever.

28. It's Pat Robertson's fault.
His outfit is in Virginia Beach, isn't it? Well now it seems to me that God is punishing ol' Pat for being so sinful. After all that's what God does to sinners, right? Inflict weather disasters to punish the wicked. So if your hometown gets dumped on, that means you are being punished. Right Pat?

I've lived in Indiana, Connecticut and New York City, and though I miss the beauty of snow, I never did enjoy the shoveling.

34. I'm in Front Royal - expecting 30" out here on top of the 8" we got the other day. Just
finished shoveling that off my upper deck to get ready for this onslaught. I was in Arlington during the 87-88 back to back storms. Was working at the Wash Post, left early (which was historical in and of itself!), tried to cross the Memorial Bridge and couldn't. Folks actually got out of their cars and left them on the bridge. I couldn't believe it.

48. So THAT's where all our snow is going . . .
.
.
.

We've had hardly any snow this winter - the least I can remember in over a decade.

Most people would be shoveling their roofs by now - only a few inches at most.

Snowbanks roadside are mostly knee-high; that's without having to wing them back.

But that's OK

You guys can have it; s'ok with me :silly:
