My college campus gets Fred Phelps imitators about this time every semester (finals).

I've gotten sick of seeing their hateful bullshit signs ("AIDS: Judgement or Cure?") and hearing them rant and scream. Either they're trying to get punched so they can sue, or they actually believe the crap they spout. Or both.

Got suggestions for dealing with them? I've tried arguing. Doesn't work. I can't kill them, much as I'd like to. Can't beat the crap out of them/set them on fire, or I'll get charged with assault and probably sued.

Tried threatening them with a mayonnaise-filled condom before, but everyone in the general vicinity freaked.

And don't say "ignore them." I'm sick of that.

I remember them. Students used to get into arguments with them just for the fun of it. They'd tell girls in short skirts that they were fornicators who were going to hell. At least that's what they used to do in the pre-AIDS era.

not brother jed... he was a fixture on the UW milwaukee quad when i was there in the early 90's....

we got our share of fundy street preachers, some were actually nice when you talked one on one, stating they had to "amp it up" a bit for the crowd's attention. i enjoyed talking with them, but made sure to steer clear of politics and religion.

then again, times have changed, i'm willing to bet some of the nice preachers i met would be shocked and/or sickened by the rise of the phelps-ian preachers...

Good one. Get the 'heavy duty' mayo from a restaurant supply. Assholes will never get it out of their clothes ( take it from the chef) They will think twice about standing in that protest line... :evilgrin: Fuck them They are shallow, if they lose a 'Limited' skirt or pants they will freak and run...believe me :evilgrin:

I love their logic when they say AIDS is punishment for homosexuality. Lesbians have...BY FAR...the lowest rate of AIDS on the Earth. I guess we're God's Chosen Ones...snort. I hate these people.
