Andrew Sullivan posted this:

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2010/02/palin-emanuel-pot-kettle.html

While I'm at it, does anyone actually believe that Palin's name for the child of miraculous provenance was found by her deep knowledge of ancient Norse as she claims in her magical-realism novel, "Going Rogue"? I mean, seriously. She knows about as much ancient Norse as she does English grammar. It's as credible as the idea that she gave a speech while having contractions, several hours after going into labor, as she claims in her novel. It's as credible as her amazing journey in labor with a special needs child on a plane where the flight attendants, according to the Anchorage Daily News, did not even notice she was pregnant. It's as credible as any number of indisputable self-serving, unbalanced lies that she has told in the public record for years.

The medical term for Down Syndrome is Trisomy-21 or Trisomy-g. It is often shortened in medical slang to Tri-g.

I've seen Down Syndrome referred to as Trisomy-G, but I can't find evidence it's referred to as Tri-G. Is Sullivan just being mean here?

Doesn't she also have a son named Track or Tripp or something like that?

18. Track Enfield is the one now in the military. Track-n-Field, get it?
Trig is probably short for Trigger. I guess he's lucky they didn't name him Pole Vault.

20. We all know how much Palin likes to pull triggers
So that probably has more to do with the name. I had no idea that her other son was called Track Enfield. I'm sure they thought they were so-o-o-o clever with that. Just out of curiosity, what's Trigg's middle name? Maybe his full name is Trigger Happy?

3. It's tough to actually be "mean" to someone like Palin...
She deserves every mean thing that can be said of her. The hapless infant,Trig, is not the target here.

5. Point well taken,
If it were true it would just mean she's that little bit more repulsive a human being than she seems now, which is pretty goddamn repulsive enough as it is.

7. Sullivan is just pointing out Palin's hypocrisy

The "Tri-G" comment is just there and doesn't really have anything to do with how Palin refers to her kid.

8. Track, Willow, Bristol, Piper...
Trig is the outlier among these names, but her stated reason, that Trig is derived from the Norse term for "true", is reasonable.

"Trig: Middle English, true, from Old Norse tryggr, loyal, true; see deru- in Indo-European roots.

But I find it hard to believe she though that hard.

However, putting together the Down Syndrome connection is far beyond her cognitive capacity.

Sullivan must be bored.

11. After playing with the google, it looks bad for Sully
Edited on Wed Feb-03-10 05:43 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
If it is common medical slang it's no so common that any reference to downs syndrome as tri-g comes up in the first several pages, except links to Sullivan's blog.

Google: "tri-g" down syndrome

Tri G actually IS medical slang for tri-glyceride, however.

Has anyone checked Trigg Palin's cholesterol?

13. I just feel very sorry for that child...
Having been born the son of Sarah Palin, is certainly doing him no favors. I can only hope that Bristol and his other siblings are more caring "parents" to him.
