(Trasport. Sec) LaHood says he misspoke on advice to Toyota owners (not to drive cars)
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood now says he misspoke when telling owners of recalled Toyotas to stop driving them.

Instead, LaHood says take the vehicles to dealerships to get them repaired.

LaHood told reporters it was "obviously a misstatement" when he told a House panel earlier Wednesday that he would advise owners not to drive recalled vehicles. The remark came during testimony to the Appropriations subcommittee on transportation.

Toyota's most recent recall in the United States affects 2.3 million vehicles with the potential for sticking gas pedals.

I don't think he misspoke at all. A recommendation not to drive an unsafe car is not an "obvious misstatement."

1. And 6 mos down the road
Some knucklehead sues the government because they junked their car because LaHood said not to drive it. Yes people are that stupid. Considering the unbelievable stupidity of Americans, the correct thing to say is take your car in to be repaired. Although clearly no one should drive their car except straight to the dealership, so I don't think that was an entire misstatement.

3. Maybe LaHood thinks Toyota makes house calls.
How else do you get your car to the dealership for service? D'oh.
