list of 109 members of the HOUSE who want the Senate to pass the PUBLIC OPTION...
Edited on Wed Feb-03-10 06:20 AM by thotzRthingz
...via reconciliation.

As of the time on this post, 107 HOUSE MEMBERS -- 109 when including Delegates Donna M. Christensen (D-VI) and Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) -- have signed the Polis/Pingree letter to Senator Harry Reid.

1. read the letter and SIGN-IT yourself, in support thereof:
http://whipcongress.com/letter

2. see the list of HOUSE supporters and uncommitteds:
http://whipcongress.com

If you do NOT see your congressional rep.'s name as being in support thereof... CALL THEIR OFFICES (local and in D.C.) and demand (politely) that they get on-board! Tell their staffer (or the rep. should you be lucky enough to speak with them) to make sure they SIGN-ON... because their constituents and the entire nation will be WATCHING this, at:

2. thanks for the k&r ... as a registered-independent voter, I implore every
DEM, yea even every citizen regardless of political affiliation, to GET BEHIND THIS MOVEMENT!

Look, there were 220 HOUSE VOTES which passed H.R. 3962 -- with the PUBLIC OPTION at its forefront. I expect to see at least 220 HOUSE members to sign-on. It's time to show the SENATE who's the boss... and I don't mean the FOR-PROFIT special interests, with deep pockets... I mean YOU and ME, the people of this great & diverse nation!

10. I can not believe that it is only INDEPENDENTS & PROGRESSIVES who are
willing to continue this fight! Come on DEMs, speak up for yourselves... we will ALL own the results (whether we like 'em or not)... let's not OWN FAILURE! What say ye?

3. Only 112 More To Go...
Gotta have 219 to get a bill passed in the House. But without 51 votes in the Senate (I'll assume if this is that close, the reconciliation card would be played) it's never going to see the light of day. But keep up the pressure and the drum beat...let's take a page from the right wing who never let their big issues fade away. I'd like to see every Democratic candidate put on the record as to where they stand on this matter...single payer, public option, expand medicare or status quo.

IIRC: on the 26th of January 2010, there were ZERO members of CONGRESS calling for such action.

On the 27th of January, there were two (Polis & Pingree)... I watched this as it progressed. First it was TWO, then THREE (Grayson signed-on). Then overnight, three became 43... and within the next 48 hours, 43 became 63, then 78, then 92... and we are now at 107 (HOUSE voters). I think 219 to be not impossible (considering that 220 passed H.R. 3962).

I personally would prefer SINGLE-PAYER (completely replacing all federal and private health insurance programs), as a NON-PROFIT method of providing for every American's health care needs. The MONEY to PAY FOR single-payer is already being spent (and squandered on WASTE and PROFITS in an already failed system)... so that's really a non-issue! In fact; with SINGLE-PAYER having some 300+million clients (the entire population)... COSTS can indeed be negotiated downward (through economy of scale, if nothing else).

Since SINGLE-PAYER has even less traction than a PUBLIC OPTION, I'm forced to settle for the latter. But that's where I draw the line. NO COMPROMISES! Give us a PUBLIC OPTION--which will eventually morph into being SINGLE-PAYER--(and that's what has the FOR-PROFITS quaking in their boots).

I too would love to see EVERY MEMBER OF CONGRESS to publicly show where they stand, on each issue which you've delineated (single payer, public option, expand medicare or status quo). HOW better to do that... than to allow a RECORDED VOTE (as each is considered, in each chamber of Congress)?

6. There Won't Be A Vote...But A Great Idea...
You're just asking for an inter-party mudfight that way and the leadership will avoid it. They'll only bring up a plan that they know can get 219...and why they're bidding time right now, passing the football to the Senate that they know is dysfunctional. Why go through all that hard work only to have it end up in a committee "dead letter" office.

Hopefully a DKos or some other site (TPM) will pose this question to every candidate...and not let them try to weasel out without an answer. Just keep pushing...in politics it's the side who wants it the most that prevails. The corporates may have the upper hand, but that's because they have the access...the voters need to demand the same access and candor.

Cheers...
