Before he switched, Arlen Spector was the most liberal repubican in the Senate.

2. Funny how that works in an election year.
Old Arlen is fighting for his political life. Don't trust him as far as I can throw him.

5. Very true.
I am not an Arlen fan. Even less so after he switched.

6. Specter is in bad trouble in PA. 1. Many Democrats don't trust him,
2. Most Republicans don't trust him.
3. A lot of Independents are going the teabagger route.
4. He is worn out, tired, lacking energy and intensity
5. PA is a big state and he won't be able to handle the heavy schedule to campaign

9. I saw on "Hardball" the other day that Matthews has this race in his top 5 to watch for 2010.
I honestly thought the primary would be heating up more by now.

Neither Democrats or Republicans I've talked to are happy about the Supreme Court ruling of several weeks ago. In this anti-corporate climate, Specter is going to have to back up his votes confirming all 5 of the pro-corporate justices. That could be tough.

10. Sestak has long odds to deal with in the primary, given Casey, Rendell and Obama
supporting Specter. I'm thinking that they are wishing they had held back on their endorsements.

11. I agree with you completely. I think they think Sestak is the better candidate now.

"Originally a Democrat, Specter switched to the Republicans in 1966 and to the Democrats again in 2009."

12. Whichever way the wind blows...
is where you'll find Arlen. Certainly most politicians cater to prevailing public sentiment, but retain some semblance of core values (and yes, they still violate them).

With Specter you get the feeling that there is no "there" there. No conservative, no progressive, not even a libertarian. Just a pol who wants to get re-elected until it's time for the old dirt nap.
