When a Reich Winger says 'government', stop them in their tracks..
and correct them by asking..

Don't you mean THE PEOPLE?

You see, government isn't some evil entity, or some evil demon, or fire breathing dragon wreaking doom all across the land.

Government is you and I.

All of us.

The PEOPLE.

Government regulation - the people exercising their right to protect life, liberty, the economy, our jobs, our livelihoods, the environment and the Earth, air, and water all around us.

Remember the old Repub mantra - trust people?

I do trust people. I trust policies of the people, for the people, by the people.

Those on the receiving end of regulations are so regulated due to an inability to self-regulate based on varying factors.

Those factors..
Greed, personal or fundie religious beliefs, denial of science, Authoritarian views- to name a few.

The people regulate when the greedy and powermad among us can't self-regulate.

I do trust people. Too bad Republicans don't.

I trust the people to govern and regulate as the people see fit. Checks and balances provide oversight. Democracy is supposed to give the people their fair say. Supposed to that is.

That's why we need to stop Righties in their tracks when they scream "government this and gubmint that".

Stop them and correct them.

Government is the people. All of us.

NOT some unseen evil entity that Republicans like to try portray it as.

1. Maybe they know this. But they do not trust people because they are people and they know that they,

themselves, are not trustworthy.

They assume that everyone is like them - a lying POS who cares only for themselves. They cannot fathom the idea that some people (in government) might actually want to do a good job to help others.

2. Agreed!
When they say "big government," say "Oh, and you prefer big corporation?"

They have been getting away with this "big government" canard for too long! :grr:

3. Also, ask them why they elect people to government positions, who hate government.
Don't people see the hypocrisy of that? "I hate government, I want to drown it in a bathtub, but elect me to this governmental position."

4. Reagan International Airport in DC is a perfect example. His name shouldn't soil anything in DC. nt

5. I frame it as them hating our form of government, and wanting to weaken it
or destroy it.

6. "The people" are American, and corporations are often foreign/multinational.
That should be where you attack their argument.

Right now, foreigner Rupert Murdoch is paying people to lambast the American government on his foreign owned media channels, and loosen restrictions on the way foreigners are able to control our American government.

What's a freeper gonna say to that?

11. Peer of the Realm, Master Machiavellian Murdoch filed the necessary paperwork decades ago
to fulfill the "US citizen" requirement for owning US television stations.

8. In the 80s I dated a guy who said he was a Republican because
he wanted to "get government off our backs." I started asking him questions. What do you think we should get off our backs? Fire and emergency services? No. Nuclear power plant regulation? No. Slash the public school system? No. Food safety inspection? No. No more road building/repairs? No. ... and so on and so on. He really couldn't point to one onerous thing he wanted to get rid of. He just had swallowed the slogan without thinking. At least he admitted he was wrong, after he'd thought about it.

9. The Republicans say "The American People" all the time.
They don't mean that, really. They mean "The American People Who Agree with Us." It's a different group of people than "The American People."
