I'm gonna explain Democratic stupid to you with this morning's Budget release as example
Edited on Mon Feb-01-10 11:05 AM by ThomWV
A little after 8:00 this morning copies of the Budget were delivered to the Senate Budget Committee chambers. C-Span was there and has been reshowing the release this morning. Their, and plenty of still camera reporters too, cameras were in the hallway and followed the budget into the room.

It was a Republican propagandists dream. Slowly and amid some confusion the budget was rolled in on a whizzing electrically driven cart, carrying boxes and boxes of budget - probably a ton or more of paper boxed up about the size of a well filled pallet. You could just see the footage of it featured on up coming campaign hit pieces. Democrats control that building you know - they could have at least kept the cameras out of the hallway.

But wait - it gets worse.

Not thirty seconds after the good guard wheeled in the first cart full of Budget, back the cameras go to the end of the hallway and in comes electric cart number two. Its as if there is a horror show inside the horror show.

And now I'm going to tell you what makes it so much worse. Once they get inside the room there are a thousand reporters with cameras flashing on the specticle - but then a young guy breaks out a boxcuter and opens up a box and takes out the actual budget. Now this is no skinny document, its about the size of a large city phone book, but what it is not is two elecrically driven carts full of Budget - and that is exactly how it is going to be betrayed.

How hard would it have been for a single copy of the Budget to have been brought into the room - just one book a few inches thick - for the reporters to take their pictures of? How hard would it have been for someone to see the photo op they were setting up with this morning's fisaco and maybe making it better. We are a stupid party for missing these little things - very stupid indeed.

1. Hopefully.....
Edited on Mon Feb-01-10 11:16 AM by FredStembottom
...the brand new, never-been-tried-before tactic of calling out Republican lies will continue.
Perhaps..... this new tactic (not a week old yet) will be extra effective as hyperventilating Republicans start referencing that video - only to be caught pantsless when Brave New Democrats point out how it is actually just one of those books.

Maybe? Will the utterly new tactic continue?

I have some actual hope, today, Thanks to Prez O.

3. I pray that you are right - but we have no history of doing what you suggest
And that is all it would take - but we never should have seen it in the first place. There is a White House press office and they should have managed this release just like a Bush team would have - for minimum traumatic effect.

13. Believe me, I agree with you!
This is just the sort of thing that should be routinely managed.
And just the sort of thing Dems never manage.
And we have exactly one(1) example in a row now of a Dem pointing out GOP lies.

...but that's up from 0. We can hope!

5. Do you imagine that this has gone on for years but this is the first time you noticed it?
My guess is that all copies are delivered at once but that is just a guess. The people that don't understand that the budget is one book several inches thick, don't, won't, can't or don't want to understand. The haters do not need an excuse to hate. It took me fifty years to learn this.

I don't exactly know when this whole thing started, but I remember seeing pictures of this over the years. It used to be an image of US power, the orderly process of government, open democracy, etc. It is so sad that has been replaced with guffawing ignorance.

11. Thank you for explaining to Thom that it is a bit like ritual.
Most Americans are not even going to be aware of the delivery and those that watch FOX are lost and hopeless.

10. if it was going in front of cameras, why didn't they put the budget on a dvd?
The Democrats are just completely stupid at presentation and manipulation.

14. This is NOT a new process. It is how every budget for the last 20+ years
has been delivered to Congress. It is also how copies of major bills are delivered and distributed. If you watch CSPAN, you see the carts and boxes often.
