Is anyone else out there as skeptical as I am about this “battle royale” in Iraq this past weekend?
NBC Nightly ran a completely disjointed report this evening describing the so-called “Soldiers of Heaven” as a “rare species” of insurgents.
Maybe this happened, maybe not – but I realize tonight that I now automatically dismiss any report out of Iraq that suggests our continued necessity of presence there as …well, hogwash!
The report seemed very careful to mention all the hot points. A fighter squadron made up of “British and American” forces dropped “500 pound bombs”. The “leader” of this rare species was killed.
See? “We are winning! We’re needed here! We’re not in this alone!”
Meanwhile, Alfred E. Neumann was quoted by NPR (of all things) as: “My first reaction on this report from the battlefield is that the Iraqis are beginning to show me something,”
Something stinks here.

and rarely watch or listen to it--I go online to find facts.

3. There is something very different about this event...

I have read a number of reports from different sources trying to understand it - not clear yet. But there does appear to be some Shiite against Shiite action planned (with a sub-goal of blaming Sunnis?) - I think it is very significant per the unfolding/expanding civil war - like an event somewhere in the future will be written when the history is written and reviewed and revised and reviewed etc. Don't know what the exact significance is - and what is behind the mirrors and smoke - but I get a gut level sense that it is very, very significant. While the reporting may be slanted to propogandize us - I don't think the event itself was - there is something about it that bodes very dark per the unfolding civil war. There is something there - if it is quickly framed as propoganda - and then 'moved on from' (ala forgotten and not discussed) - something very significant will be missed - don't know what that is - but really get a sense that it is important.
