Now that Tim Tebow has gone political, could he become the next Ronald Reagan?
Two games into Tim Tebow's tenure as a starting quarterback in college, I predicted he would win Heisman Trophies plus national championships and go down as one of the greatest college football players ever.

Now that his college career is officially over following his performance in Saturday's Senior Bowl, it's time to make another bold prediction:

Tim Tebow will be the President of the United States someday.

Go ahead and laugh if you want. They used to laugh, too, at the notion that another charismatic, conservative former college football player could become president. You might have heard of him.

His name was Ronald Reagan.

"If Tim Tebow wanted to be a political candidate, it's his for the taking," says Orlando attorney John Stemberger, who heads Florida Family Policy Council, a politically connected conservative religious organization. "He would be a political rock star. … He's handsome, he's humble and he has character and integrity. … This young man could be the next Ronald Reagan or Jack Kemp if he wanted to be."

Stemberger's organization is the local affiliate of the national organization – Focus on the Family – that is airing Tebow's controversial right-to-life commercial. The Super Bowl ad transcends anything Tebow has ever done on the football field. It transforms him from football player to political figure and aligns him with Focus on the Family — the most politically powerful evangelical organization in this country.

4. I notice they mention these attributes for him:
He's handsome, he's humble and he has character and integrity..no place do they mention intelligence. I've had enough of the Republican idiots running for president with an average i.q. not much above their temperature..98.6. For cripes sake, they even wanted to run Dan Quayle at one time. The only reason is because lower i.q. means the person is easier to control by the people we don't see in the background.

38. That Is Patently False.
You don't have to be particularly bright to be even an NFL quarterback, let alone a college quarterback. Eli Manning, Michael Vick, and Kerry Collins - just to name a few - are not smart men.

25. libs/progs tend to make the mistake of underestimating their opposition's intelligence...
I don't know how good a candidate Tebow will make, but his success or not won't be due to lack of intelligence. He is associated with one "success" already: getting CBS to televise his stuff, even as the network rejects other religious/PSA spots. I mean, no one, NO ONE says "no" to the far right.

And there is always Colt McCoy (who keeps his religion more low-keyed).

52. I've heard them too, but come up with different conclusions...
They are bright, educated, sublimely aggressive, and they NEVER let up. They know their enemy well, and can dictate policy even when the presidency and both "floors" are held by the Democrats. Like their ideology or not (and I don't), they are much more effective than the Democrats.

You can't be stupid, uneducated hicks and accomplish that.

My bet is, now that Kurt Warner has officially retired, Tebow will take his place as God's personal spokesperson in the NFL. Hopefully though, Tebow will fade into obscurity in a year or two and we'll never hear from him again.

48. He may make it as a tight end or wide out
either way some team will draft him and he is likely to spend at least the next three years on some teams roster. It's not that uncommon for QBs with his raw skills to at least get a chance to convert to a new position. Some make it like Tony Martin and many don't.

He started getting conservative in the 1950's, but didn't switch until 1962-64 (something like that).

So perhaps we can look forward to Mr. Tebow switching parties and ideologies too.

16. He Is Political, Little Doubt
I have little doubt he is political. As a Gator by marriage, I knew Tebow was a fundamentalist Christian and thought be was probably Conservative, but it didn't matter. I also figured he had to be Pro-Life, but I could see that as one aspect of his character. Overall, I respected him because he seemed to "walk the walk." But some how, it is crossing a line when he publicly fronts for a bigoted and sexist organization. Now, just thinking of him gives me this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

And it is not just that he no longer plays for UF. I liked Errict Rhett and Rex Grossman after graduation. Danny Wuerffel seems to be living as a Christian without shoving his political views in our faces.

And there is no need to hide your beliefs. But some organizations are more offensive than others.

So much for the first prediction.

The way things are going, if Tebow wants to be in charge of anything in this country he'll have to have an ethnicity change operation and become Chinese.

37. Tim Tebow Will Be Completely Forgotten In Five Years
He has no future in the NFL, as he doesn't have the skills necessary to be a starting NFL quarterback. Some team desperate for publicity will draft him as a PR stunt, and he'll hold a clipboard for three years, and then be quietly cut once everyone has forgotten who he is.

Also, once he gets married and has sex for the first time, he won't be much interested in doing anything else.

I agree about him getting drafted for the PR, but after that he's gotta be able to play with the big boys and from all I've read about the dude (ZERO interest in wasting time watching college football) is he doesn't have the speed or the arm to make it in the NFL. As others have noted, we've seen many phenom college QBs who bust out in the NFL (we've had a bunch of them here...Rex Grossman & Cade McNown) who didn't have the "field smarts" (has nothing to do with IQ) to do well against several 350 pound DBs on his tail. Even Doug Flutie was a bust-out for most of his career. Maybe Tebow will find competition more his speed in Canada.

45. Tebow will be a "project" in the NFL...
Tebow is an option quarterback. He has bad throwing mechanics, a slow release, his footwork is not even on par with a good high school kid. His passes wobble and bobble, he does not know how to look off his receivers, and just generally is an awful NFL prospect. He may make it as a full back or possibly converted to tight end, but he will take extensive work to be an NFL quaterback, and he really may not have the ability.
