Melbourne Police Officer Charged With Official Misconduct

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- A Melbourne police officer was arrested Thursday on misconduct charges related to traffic stops and citations made on non-white people, officials said.

Officer Frank Carter, a 42-year-old who has been with the Melbourne Police Department for 21 years, faces five felony charges of official misconduct and four misdemeanor charges of falsifying records, said Wayne Ivey, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's resident agent-in-charge in Brevard.

Ivey said in reviewing dashboard-camera video from Carter's patrol car, FDLE found tickets were written for violations such as driving without headlights when headlights would not have been required and for having no tag lights when the vehicle tag lights were working.

The investigation began in late November when Melbourne police received a complaint, Melbourne police Cmdr. Ron Bell told Local 6 News partner Florida Today.

2. Living in FL, this surprises the hell out of me...
They actually charged a cop with a crime? A felony no less?

Thank God its just a drop in the bucket, otherwise police might have to stop tasering anyone they want! The chaos!
