I'm not hearing a single bit of applause at Obama's address to the Republicans.
Must be unnerving to the President--or any speaker, for that matter.

How will they be portrayed as "dickheads"?
It's the frikkin "liberal media"! There won't be a bad camera angle on a Repug ...

15. Well, I was referring to their petty, uncooperative behavior..

..being viewed by the public. The media can and does spin everything, but I'm guessing the majority people who watch something for themselves, will draw their own conclusions. The eyes don't lie.

Edited to add that I'm not viewing this, so I don't know what is or isn't being shown..

that they will someday love him.

4. I sure hope that firms up his resolve to work AROUND them.
It sounds like they're dug in and committed to opposing him, defying logic.

I don't mind him making the public overtures and appeals to "bipartisanship" as long as he truly realizes behind closed doors that it's BS.

6. There was one burst of applause earlier
Not to be contrary but I heard it a bit ago.

What chaps me off is the stupid clinking of utensils on plates. Nothing stands between Republicans and their grub.

I'm surprised we don't hear slurping and burbs.

7. There was some about the WAR and Veterans' benefits. He sounds so reasonable
and fair, I've been wondering how they're going to spin this.

I don't think they listen sincerely, but just listen through the filter of being on the lookout for ammunition to use against him.

I'm glad he's doing this publicly so the people can hear what he actually is saying, not what THEY will say he said.

Oh yeah. You can be sure that there are people deconstructing this talk for nuggets that can be manipulated.

I can't remember what it was, but that's been the only time so far.

I sure wish there were camera shots of some of the audience.

such as jobs what will they say? This was a great move by Pres. Obama to put this on tv.

18. Another great speech
and I love how he went item by item, pointing out every concession that's been made to make them happy!

Have to agree with the posters upthread who said they just keep making themselves look worse and worse with this behavior and that Obama needs to lay down the law behind closed doors. They still don't get that they're the MINORITY!! When did Democrats EVER receive this kind of attention from Bush??

27. Agreed
It needs to be hammered into people's heads, but sadly the networks will pick & choose which bits to air and somehow I doubt they'll show the most important parts.

Now what I'd like to see him do is take their "booklet of ideas", go through it line by line which won't take long because it's not a very thick booklet (I'm sure there's lots of pictures and big fonts, then let him get an hour or two in prime time, all networks, for some show & tell. Show the public what's in that stupid booklet, item by item, and tell them why he's already compromised on this point or why it's not in the country's best interest for Dems to compromise on others.

21. Was there just some heckling
or shout from the crowd? It seemed that he looked to his right and addressed someone in the audience.

I give him all the credit in the world for staying so composed! I don't know how he does it and if that was me, this function wouldn't be covered live. They'd have to insert too many bleeps....
