Wisconsin Senate Passes Bill to Ban Abstinence-Only Sex-ed Programs
http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/82968902.html

All public schools that teach sex education would be required to instruct students about birth control and sexually transmitted disease, under a bill the Senate passed Thursday.

The Senate passed the bill 18-15, with Democrats who control the Senate voting for it and Republicans voting against it.

Sen. Judy Robson (D-Beloit), a former nurse, said teaching a solely abstinence-based curriculum has resulted in high rates of teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

/snip/

The Assembly passed the bill 48-43 in November, with Rep. Bob Ziegelbauer (D-Manitowoc) joining all Republicans in voting against the bill.

The Senate amended the bill, so it has to go back to the Assembly before it can head to Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle, who has not said whether he would sign it.

1. About time for some sanity on this topic...
the kids need real information in these areas, not fairy tales.

6. Sanity is back! K&R.
It is loathsome what the fundamentalists have done to America's children.

It's taken decades to now see the damage done by these wicked, cultish fanatics.

Here's to Wisconsin!

7. This shouldn't be controversial any more
After Bristol Palin, how can anyone possibly defend abstinence-only education? If she didn't have the family support system that backed such a ridiculous concept, what chance does the teen from the single-parent family have?

Try that argument out on your reich wing friends and family!

8. And yet for some reason it is. It was a party line vote.

9. After the public health catastrophe of AOD
It's a wonder Republicans want to keep sailing this leaky scow of a policy. If you want to see your daughter pregnant before she's out of high school, vote Republican.

By the way, don't give me any nonsense about some spineless Democrats being in favor of AOD. The engine driving this discussion is and always has been exclusively Republican.
