13 Activists for Peace arrested in front of White House
email from a peace friend from MN.

13 people were arrested at the White House today. Nine of them are from Minnesota including Steve Clemens and the Brauns and Mary Persich.

They are in the DC jail. Evidently they will be held for 24 hours in a jail that is all stainless steel including the bunks. The water supply does not work that well if at all in the cells. And according to Kathy Kelly they turn up either the heat and the air conditioning to make them uncomfortable.

For the action we had cardboard tombstones with the names of 77 Minnesotans who died in the wars and we read the name of each plus remembering the Iraqis.

Then we threw peace-decorated shoes at a End the Occupation sign that Coleen had brought along. We have great video of that.

Finally the 13 laid down on the sidewalk and we walked around them singing until the police told us we had to leave or be arrested.

They took the arrestees away in paddy wagon

Some of us went to Rep John Kline's office and talked to a staff person and then to Rep Keith Ellison's office and talked to a couple of sympathetic people. Tomorrow we talk to the Senator's staff people.
More later.

2. Civil disobedience that doesn't lead to an arrest is
not real. Whining about the arrest does not become you if you engage in this activity. It is only when you are arrested that you make any point. Celebrate the arrests and publicize them as a triumph.

5. That was a Trillion Dollars ago
Don't you feel a Trillion Dollars safer?

What does one TRILLION dollars look like?
http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/index.html

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet...

Every Citizen in the US could have been given 1 million dollars
for a real stimulus and the US Government would still be able to spend
~953,600,570,869 on killing and ships and drones

That is AFTER we got a million dollars, they would still be spending
nine hundred fifty three billion six hundred million five hundred seventy
thousand dollars.

The one thing we surely bought for a tril is a few new bin ladens

6. I'm glad they did it
I would prefer that they keep their dignity about it though. Anyone who has done this kind of activism is aware of the sadistic games the law plays.
