DU, WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?!?!?!?

For months now, DU has been having connectivity problems. Now it seems to be occurring nearly every day, often for extended periods.

Sometimes certain forums are available, while others are not. Tonight, Nothing was accessible, except for DU Journals. No Latest, no Greatest, no forums, no threads, nothing.

And those incessant bug reports & error messages! * IF * you are able to actually access DU these days, you stand as equal a chance of getting a damn bug report or error message as you do of actually getting to whatever it is you clicked to get to.

There is an increasing frequency of DU web pages not loading at all, and when they do, well, it's like waiting for molasses to go uphill.

Perhaps I should go to the library and get a copy of War and Peace. I do believe I would be able to read the entire book while waiting to read/post anything here. I might also get the entire Dickens collection.

4. Oh Will, don't be so damn logical! In all sincerity, I've also gotten

so used to jumping onto Du when I hear or see something interesting, much the same as I used to pick up the phone, call a friend, and say "Hey, did you see...or did you hear about...!!!"

Many of us have become friends and people get upset when they can't talk to their friends.

I know it's unfair to Skinner and therest of the folks who make this site work great most of the time, and I don't mean any anger against them. Iknow they get just as upset when something goes wrong as we do, or perhapse even more.

DU & thenet have become an addiction!

that's a bit strong I think. No, it isn't perfect but no site is. All of them have their burps and clunkiness from time to time.

BTW, have you run AdAware or SpyBot lately? I did the other day and now my computer is running much faster. Some of the problems I had were actually because I'd accumulated so much crap on my computer I needed to clean it up.

This is the only website that I experience problems with. Every other website works just fine.

I think that is where the questioning is coming from. If they need additional $ to keep it running, maybe they should explain why and then ask us for it.

21. In the six years that I've been on DU

I can count on one hand the amount of times that I have had trouble with DU. I don't count the occasional bug or two--- I count downtime etc.

I've been on a lot of forums since the inception of Mr. Gores internet--- and there's nothing even close that runs with the efficiency of this web site.
You do know that they put up a new front page which should give you an indication that they are tweaking the site.

I'd say the trouble they are having the last couple of weeks has caused me oh about 5 minutes of aggravation trying to post etc.... 5 fricking minutes---- that's all.

So---- be patient with this site or go read War and Peace.

Oh, and if it's of your bent, I can tell you from personal experience that Stephen King's "The Stand" is truly superlative modern American Literature. Screw "critics" who write him off as a throwback to the penny-dreadfuls... His voice is that of several generations of Americans who ultimately rebelled against being force-fed Dickens and Hawthorne.

If it's getting so you **have** to log on to DU, you might want to find some other outlets.
