Where's The Movement?
by George Lakoff
Sun Jan 24, 2010 at 11:48:20 PM PST

In forming his administration, President Obama abandoned the movement that had begun during his campaign for deal-making and a pragmatism that hasn’t worked. That movement is still possible and needed now. Here is look at what is required, and how a version of it is forming in California.

We begin with this week’s triple whammy.

2. I was wondering about that.
But he didn't give us anything to mobilize for. Too many stinky bills that aren't inspiring to say the least.

He's got to give us something we can really support.

4. Depressing stuff. Perhaps it's good to consider that Lakoff is really an ad man?
He just wants to call himself a "linguist" because
Professor of Huckstering doesn't go over so well at Berkeley.

So now he says it's all about morality;
sometimes he mentions some mommy-daddy nonsense.
But I expect that's because he doesn't want to look harder
at the real problems, like overpriced health care,
which he is neither competent nor willing to address.
After all, he and his friends
profit from the current unjust state of affairs.

Sorry, I know he has supporters. But I feel that
deserve so much better than this.

5. Uh, yeah . . . . right.
You don't appear to know much if anything about George Lakoff. Read up a bit. Google, etc.

6. Good piece. Too long and boring.
Maybe read the last 1/3 later ......

"It has worked because conservatives really believe that the issue is freedom. It fits the conservative moral system. It fits how conservatives see the world."

Disagree with this unless "really believe' = "don't really think." "Its fits" conservative preconceptions. It responds to (more) brainwashing. It is unquestioned acceptance of jargon, not substance.

The notion of a movement in California being a start, is a bright spot.
