Many people (including me) posted this article earlier about Mr. Francis in response to news of his jail time, but as far as I know, it hasn't been the subject of an OP yet.

Anyone who defends this guy should read it--Joe'd like to be the next Hugh Hefner, but despite his current legal problems, he doesn't even qualify as the next Larry Flynt. After reading the article, you'll understand why this is about WAY more than just contempt of court--or stupid coeds who've had too much to drink. I'm a 25-year-old straight guy with no qualms at all about nudity or "traditional" pornography--but this guy's behavior is just wrong.

He's rich enough to have legally squirmed out of serious time thus far, but I'm pretty certain his days are numbered. Good riddance, as far as I'm concerned.

ON EDIT-- READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE. It's not a hit piece on Girls Gone Wild, but a pretty damning portrait of Joe Francis and his personal mistreatment and battery of women.

1. Heh, different strokes I guess

Hugh Hefner and Larry Flynt are two friends of the First Amendment and Larry Flynt is one of my very favorite people.

Joe Francis just films what happens EVERY day on campus.

I live in New Orleans and there is a bar on Bourbon Street that has a camera on it that says Girls Gone Wild and ALL NIGHT LONG there are girls pushing each other out of the way to get in front of it for their demented version of their fifteen minutes of fame. There is NO coercion at all. There is security to control it when the actual camera guy comes out onto the street.

He films largely public events. Occasionally some dumb ass under age girl with poor parents gets in front of a camera and (fake gasp) shows her breasts, and then wants to sue him. OOOoooooh. Someone call the fucking American Taliban or the Morality Police.

So fucking what? Who cares?

Don't like it? Don't buy it. Don't want your daughter in the videos? Don't be a shitty parent and teach your daughter self respect.

2. Um, did you miss the rape incident discussed in the article?

This isn't a hit piece on Girls Gone Wild, it's an examination of Joe Francis' personal mistreatment of women--and run-ins with the law--over the last couple of years.

Judge not, unless you actually read the damn article.

3. Actually, Hefner and Flynt have their good points...

Hefner has been an outspoken advocate for civil rights, equality, and interestingly enough--women's choice. His work is his work, but I won't see only that and not the other aspects of the human being. He used Playboy as a forum for some that otherwise may have not had a platform (i.e. Lenny Bruce, black performers, female performers, etc.). His Playboy After Dark was integrated, in that he featured performers that weren't allowed to perform for integrated audiences at the time(i.e. Dick Gregory, Bill Cosby, Lenny Bruce, Ella, etc.)

I may not like all of what Flynt does (i.e wanting his porn performers to work w/out condoms :scared:). (and who cares that I don't....it's his life, not mine. lol). But I sincerely salute his fight for free speech, many years ago. I also respect and admire that he stood up for Bill Clinton when so many wouldn't. Flynt called out the hypocrisy of the people that challenged Clinton's fidelity and made it a national issue. Pornographer or not, I will always admire that he offered a cash reward to anyone with dirt on those hypocrites.

Joe whatever his face just seems greedy, shallow and exploitative--totally out for himself. I could be wrong, but I don't see him speaking out for the rights of anyone, only his own.

I really have no problem with Flynt and Hefner at all--I was just trying to make a point.

5. Is that a problem...?

People post their thoughts on other posts. Sometimes they read the entire article posted, sometimes not. Sometimes people have no interest and just want to comment on the issue at hand.

I guess I really don't understand how or why you are taking issue with that.

6. My annoyance in a nutshell...

...the article discloses a pattern of Joe Francis verbally abusing, manhandling, and in at least one case, RAPING both the girls who appear in his videos and unsuspecting women in his personal life. And thus far, except for comparatively mild technicalities, he's gotten away with it.

Both comments I've seen so far seem to want to discuss the merits and legality of pornography, which has absolutely nothing to do with the article. I have no problem with pornography--I have a problem with jerks who blatantly and continuously mistreat women and then use their legal team to weasel out of it.

I won't get into what my comments were or were not, as they are there for anyone that is interested. Clearly there is nothing in them discussing the "merits of pornography" as you said, but the merits of two men that happen to be pornographers. If you don't see that, perhaps you need to re-read them and if not--no big deal. You're entitled to your interpretation.

I've seen your posts around the board.
My impression is that you frequently find things you deem as "controversial" or that perhaps you think will make for a heated discussion and you post about it. Here, maybe you thought you were going to get people all upset about Francis's history. :eyes: So your "annoyance in a nutshell" is that no one is taking your bait. It didn't work, and now you are upset about it.

...you complained that no one read the ARTICLE you linked to. You know, the one that you demanded (or was that begged) people to read.

Just interesting you had such a vested interest in people knowing what a creep this guy is. As if no one could look at his products, his recent appearances in the news and figure that out. :eyes: As if there was going to be some big board brawl over whether he's a dirtbag or not. :boring:
