Screaming in the Windstorm - my reply to Obama.com's recent email
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 11:56 PM by FirstLight
Ya, I received the recent donation leter from Barackobama.com and I am just nauseated by the Platitudes:
...

Yesterday's disappointing election results show deep discontent with the pace of change. I know the OFA community and the President share that frustration.

We also saw what we knew to be true all along: Any change worth making is hard and will be fought at every turn. While it doesn't take away the sting of this loss, there is no road to real change without setbacks along the way.

We could have simply sought to do things that were easy, that wouldn't stir up controversy. But changes that aren't controversial rarely solve the problem.

Our country continues to face the same fundamental challenges it faced yesterday. Our health care system still needs reform. Wall Street still needs to be held accountable. We still need to create good jobs. And we still need to continue building a clean energy economy.
The President isn't walking away from these challenges. In fact, his determination and resolve are only stronger. We must match that commitment with our own.
But it won't be easy. Real change never is. For that reason, I am grateful you're part of this fight with us.

Thank you,
Mitch Stewart
Director
Organizing for America

So here's my reply, which I am sure will be lost in the shuffle and ignored, but I still had to vent...and it isn't nearly as abusive as I would like to be, but he IS the president and I am trying to be respectful!

Dear Mr. Stewart and President Obama...

A year ago, I wept at the hope and change I thought would be oming to our country.
Last night I had no more tears, just the same empty-sick feeling I had carried for 8 long years while Bush ran our collective lives into the ground.

I have been out of work for over a year, went back to school as part of the Workforce Investment Act, completing a Certificate program in October. I STILL cannot find work to support myself and my family...$8 an hour at the ski resort is not going to help me get off Welfare & Food Stamps.

I know you hear 'Hard Times' stories every day...but what is NOT happening is the ACTUAL change we VOTED for. I worked on your behalf, I donated money even when I was broke...and I have STILL seen my sister lose her home and her family become vagabonds. I STILL see Bankers and Corporations getting what THEY need while the rest of us are scraping by. I STILL see our country at WAR. My town is slowly becoming a ghost town, and more storefronts are boarded up every day...

If you really do plan on making the changes you spoke of...forget about doing it in a "timely" or "bi-partisan" manner. WE VOTED FOR YOU TO GET THIS JOB DONE...and there is no time for "setbacks" or negotiating. People are desperate, we needed this change years ago, and now telling us to be PATIENT is NOT the answer.

Please consider cleaning the crooks out of your cabinet and staff, they are not going to help you, they are hindering the very changes we want. Please consider acting with SOME of the boldness of your predecessor - he was not afraid to create plenty of BAD laws by using his Executive Penstroke...you CAN do the same to FIX things.

I have really tried to hold you to a high level of integrity and allowed for patience and the magnitude of the problems our country is facing.
But the PEOPLE voted FOR YOU - to get us out of ALL unnecessary war & bring our guys home, to stand up for the Homosexual community, to stand up for the poor, to help create a new infrastructure...
You have thrown pennies at your promises and kept many of the Bush failed policies. (regardless of how many of us WANT him and his cronies prosecuted!)

Please wake up and create the change you spoke of...many of us are already going down for the third & final time. Our hope is fading, and our livlelihoods have been exchanged for SURVIVAL.

(edit spelling errors, oops, got excited)

1. Feel free to break up the big banks at any time Mr. President.
We've got your back if you decide to take us up on our offer.

2. I think you would find
An enormous amount of independents and even some true repubs would back that play as well.

Hell, it might be the best action to ensure re-election he could make.

3. Big banks, big companies...
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 12:00 AM by FirstLight
Why should all these telecom companies have such staggering behemoth status?
..and doesn't GE own Kraft foods or something crazy like that?

these companies ALL need to be broken up and the playing field LEVELED!

I would hate to think of some financial disaster being the only way we can have that happen...

4. Let's hope this easy going all too relaxed president learns his lessons
because it could all be over for him before he even knows it and we'll move on to someone that's not a Pied Piper. Sorry to hear about your difficulties on the verge of a disaster. Everytime I see a foreign car or a walmart or a BofA or a chinese tool or computer I get pissed and pray for someone to save us lemmings. Politicians created these problems and they seem hell bent on not fixing them.

5. You wept at the hope and change?
Hope and change based on what exactly?

6. Exactly. It was all just political smoke and mirrors a year ago
and now people are upset when the smoke is dissipating to show how misdirected everyone has been.

It's a damned shame that a con job this big took in so many people. Begging isn't going to make Obama suddenly become the person he pretended to be. :(

7. tears of joy, at the CHANCE for Change
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 12:43 AM by FirstLight
ya, well the poetry of the thought worked in the moment...

and as an idealist, I really don't think it was all a "con-job"

But somewhere in the midst of thing, the details and too many people who 'thought they knew what was best' have warped what he was planning to accomplish.
Begging may not "work," but like I said, I needed to vent and I can still hope that somehow me and a million others writing similar leters about how we want things to TRULY change...maybe it will be the straw that broke the camel's back and he will get a clue.

Who knows.. I could be sorely dissapointed...I hate to say it but it almost seems like a theme among Dem leadership in my adult lifetime.

9. Well done
Very good reply and it speaks with a deep honesty. I have not been able read any more of the emails that have been sent int he last few weeks - I just delete them. I wept those same tears the night of the election. I am disappointed. I thought for the longest time that the President was slyly working his way towards our "shared" goals. I don't know what to think anymore.

10. me too
I thought "wow, he's appointing Tim Geitner, that's interesting" and "gee, Gates is staying, gosh golly" and "he's reaching across the aisle, yay bipartisanship" ... but now I think "we've all been had" and "what a moron." I am disappointed and disillusioned and completely sickened by the SCOTUS ruling. Obama needs to do a huge about-face or it's over. Just over.
