The 22% of Democrats who voted for Brown are probably the same Dems
who voted for Reagan.

In the past, they had no problem voting both for Kennedy and for Reagan (or another Republican.) Now that Kennedy's gone, they have no loyalty to whatever Democrat's in his place.

We have more to worry about from Reagan Democrats and Independents than we do from anyone else.

1. Why do you think Brown appealed to them, over Coakley?

14. it's the cosmo factor
MA tends to elect good looking senators...

kerry, kennedy, and now brown...

no, i'm not serious about that motivation.

but they DO elect good looking senators.

6. Young & handsome vs Schoolmarm
and after a very sick old man.

As beloved as Ted was, he was virtually absent for many many months, and 47 years is probably about 15 too many...for anyone.

When he got the diagnosis he got, he probably should have stepped down then and while he was still relatively healthy, bolstered a successor, and that person might have been serving for a while now, and preparing for 2012.

7. She ran a hands-off campaign, had some unfortunate legal cases on her resume,
and had an unpleasant voice.

He was better looking, sounds okay, and drives a truck. In other words, he's the one the voters wanted to have a beer with.

It's sick, but voters still are influenced by superficialities.

17. that can help us as well as hurt us
the fact that obama has metric assloads of charisma, is very handsome (and has a beautiful family), and is the kind of guy people want to have a beer with, also helped us in his election.

it's ALWAYS been a factor, and always will be.

of course, before television, etc. it wasn't nearly as important.

let's not also forget that nixon's sweat and unappealing visage hurt him immensely and great helped kennedy.

it's a fact of life here, and frankly, in many other countries.

looks, personality, charisma, etc. matter

4. My district has a split personality too.
Bush won here easily in 2000 and 2004 but so did Democrats Levin, Stabenow and Granholm.

9. From what I saw, it was DINOs who wanted check and balances in DC. What has that

accomplished in the last 80 years? Not a whole lot.

The only real change happens when our party rules without hindrance from the other.

Thanks a lot DINOs. You've ensured the status quo for another 20 years.

12. No.. Working Class Irish / Ethnic Voters
Check the percentage that McCain won last time.

Basically, Micks (Irish Americans) and ethnic Dem's. These are Union Guys. You will fined the answer. No Jobs and easy answer.

That is it. I hope DC figures it out and adds Jobs!

Jobs and win. No Jobs - Republican vote. It is not hard to figure out.

It's the economy stupid!
