This race was decided on gender.
You're watching TV right now? Note the lack of women. Those that are there are in their 30's and 40's. Compare that to Martha's party and who was on the stage. Look at the Daughters and how they are dressed. Did you love the support of the sports stars? Did you love Rush's support for your senator?

My fellow Massachusetts citizens, you deserve what you got.

6. actually they have a pretty piss poor history of electing women
The last two now who have run statewide have lost races they otherwise should have won.

2. They should have voted for Nixon.
It makes no difference now.
Sports stars? Ehh, evolved monkeys, still below human status.

3. No it wasn't
It was decided by a number of things, gender didn't come close to the top of the list.

5. had the same thought
They saw a man and a woman and decided to go for the man, big surprise. It reminds me of the sexism Hillary faced.

7. Well, in many ways, yes ... and I say this as a woman and a feminist
My choice in the primary would have been Capuano. But Emily's List poured a lot of money into Coakley. And then BIll Clinton endorsed her in the primaries. And she was not a strong candidate. I'm not saying she would not have been a strong senator, just not a strong candidate.

8. Massachusetts historically votes AGAINST the female candidate
Look at the record. This is nothing new. It may be a liberal state, but it's a very patriarchal state, and old ways die hard. The dirty little secret of Massachusetts is its sexist history in the voting booth.

9. Martha ran a shitty campaign
Even if there were some gender bias involved, as you allege. I voted for Coakley (Mike Capuano in the primaries) while all the time knowing that she was a weak candidate who ran a less than inspiring campaign. A friend who lives in one of Boston's neighborhoods of color said she never saw any Coakley campaign signs during her travels. She also said she didn't see any Brown signs, but didn't find that surprising given that she and her neighbors were not among the people Brown was courting. But she expected more from the Democrat who said she was running to continue the legacy of a great democratic leader.

I'm beyond pissed off right about now. But what gives me some peace of mind is knowing that "posing" Scott is nothing more than a placeholder. My goal is to have him back in his hometown of Wrentham tooling around in his busted pick-up come 2012.
