We have been talking about the truth not getting out for YEARS. We are used to hearing the truth. Sometimes we forget that The Truth hasn't been part of the public discourse much.
That the invasion in Iraq has been a disaster of epic proportions, that our presence there is guaranteeing continued catastrophe is coming as news to a huge portion of the American public.
According to Crooks & Liars. his office has been overrun by wing-nuts objecting to Reid's insistence on an exit strategy.

Senator Reid,

I am writing to deliver my personal thanks for your stand on the travesty that is the war in Iraq. The fact that I am a Republican who cannot accept this tragedy is only pertinent in that I am one of many who are fed up with this administration and stand with you and your efforts to end this criminal adventure.

Upon even minor investigation of the details, any reasonable person can and would conclude that the reasons for the invasion of a sovereign nation without cause or provocation have nothing to do with the national security of the United States of America.
It has been a drain on our economy, a bane upon our international reputation, and crime against the men and women that serve our country and who protect us without question.
This invasion has served the enemies of our country as surely as it has destroyed a stable, secular state in an otherwise radical area of the world. Where once Al-Qaeda was banned, they now have full access to Iraq. Where once oil production promised a more stable energy market, that market has been thrown into chaos. Where once even countries who were not our friends extended their concern to America for our tragedy, now there is hatred and resentment that will fester for generations, and visit any harm upon us that it can.

We have not merely lost the war in Iraq, we have lost so much more profoundly our reputation, our morality, and our spirit. The soul of America is tainted by the actions of this administration, and we must have absolution if we can ever hope to survive as the nation MY very forefathers fought to create. Those forefathers gave us a gift, they gave the world a gift in America, a nation that could and would represent some of the most vibrant and beautiful aspects of humanity. And that gift has been turned into a blight upon the world by the will of a few who are not only not capable of embracing the principles upon which this nation was founded, but show open disdain for everything America was meant to uphold.

We have lost, Senator, and to say that we have merely lost the effort in Iraq is a profound understatement in the face of the desecration wrought upon our nation by those who, with reckless, despotic abandon, have destroyed an entire people in our name.

Thank you Senator for at least pointing out this one, small aspect of our failure.

Those who would criticize you for speaking this one truth have simply no understanding of the true loss we have and are still suffering. Such people bear no mind or consideration, do not let the ignorant weigh upon your actions for such a legacy should not be yours.

Nor should it be that of America's.
