Katrina Survivor's comment on Haiti
Having suffered through Katrina myself, having my world turned upside down by the making of it into a political issue, I am aware of how making a situation like Haiti into a political football can do more damage than the event itself.

I ask you to not make it pro-Obama, or anti-Obama but watch and hope all our elected officials will focus on doing what will help in Haiti. It is a horrible situation to go through such as this and like in Katrina, these people don't want to hear political posturing and could care less, they want what all human beings should have, and that is help to recover. Please don't let this be political and remember it is about those suffering and being humane.

1. Welcome to DU. Your words are wise... and generous
considering you suffered through both a disaster and shameful neglect.
:hi:

5. When it comes to the actions of our Government, everything is political.
I just hope that Republicans don't get too upset that the USA is sending aid to a country of black people...Democrats are already cowering..

12. Yes that is me
I still do what I can for Katrina Survivors. I still cover it on my radio show and often have people who are still having a hard time on the show as well as people still trying to resolve the formaldhyde issues. David Vitter of La. is really showing what a rotten and filthy thing he is and I have covered that as well. You want to hear podcast of my show you can find it at http://thejefffariasshow.com and my show's name is Coffee with Sarge

19. Sarge trust me, the Haitian people will have
their own issues with their own political leaders. The political football (which oh Rush tried to create today) would be limited to the US.

20. evening, Sarge. We can politicize everything all day long in this chat room
but you and I both know too well from surviving disasters on the Gulf Coast, that for the people there it's all about surviving from one moment to the next. It looks like international aid is quickly en route to Haiti as fast as it was slow or not coming at all to us in the Gulf. The people here on DU, for the most part, are a very giving group, and I have already seen countless posts about how to send aid or money to the region via several good charities.

Maybe the scope of this horrible event will transcend politics (aside from ass-hats like Pat Robertson)

see ya in Nova exile.
