Is Coakley as much of an asshole/dimwit as she is portrayed in the media?

She does not seem like a particularly good candidate, or even a decent person, certainly seems to lie a lot.
Is this just Mass. politics?

She is not a great campaigner, but she is very popular in the state. She has been a good attorney general and is reasonably progressive.

However, the media have been raving about the nice guy who posed nude, but has been lying through his teeth when it comes to her positions.

3. I can only think of a few things I disagree with her about.

And most fall in the civil liberties category, so I'm guessing her opponent isn't much better.

e.g. She argued that allowing defense to cross examine forensics "experts" would put too great a burden on prosecutors. In light of the amount of incompetence and malfeasance from crime labs, that's a pretty crappy statement.

5. Media aside, her record does have some issues.

Reading her Wikipedia article, she seems to consistently take a much more conservative stance on certain matters even when that stance is patently absurd, like justifying the bomb scare over those LED signs in 2007 because "It had a very sinister appearance, it had a battery behind it, and wires." She refused to reprimand the state's District Attorneys for breaking campaign laws and patently lying about the now voter approved marijuana reform law, then she lied about it HERSELF.

None of it's enough that I don't think she should be elected, but in Massachusetts, we should be able to do better than this.

6. She is not perfect, but she does not deserve the attacks in the OP.

She was not my candidate during the primary, but as far as I am concerned, dimwit and asshole is very much out of bounds.

Mind you that this is from somebody who's raised money for Coakley, but I've got little time or tolerance for people who want to keep pursuing absolutely insane drug and terrorism policies.

the OP is merely stating that the media seem to be implying that she is an asshole/dimwit and is asking if she is what they seem to be saying she is.

Not at all like saying, "I think she's an asshole/dimwit"

Which I don't feel would be out of bounds even if the OP actually did say it. People are entitled to their opinions of political figures, aren't they?


Anyway, not trying to start a fight or anything. Just wanted to point out that the OP didn't specifically call Martha Coakley an asshole.

The media are working hard to try to destroy her, so, you're right, the OP is not attacking her, however, he is repeating attacks without even sourcing them. Not exactly helpful.

swift boat assholes making up ads...what does that tell you. I think the democrats should make an ad. Tell them that brown was so desperate he had the swift boats try to do to Coakley what they did to their Senator Kerry. Tell outrageous lies about him. the problem is the democrats do not stand up and fight ...it's time they did.

that seems to be in a real panic about her.... she does have some problems, but I will probably back her with my limited finances...

what did you read or hear that led to asshole/dimwit
