Glee's Jane Lynch: Obama "a Huge Disappointment" on Gay Rights
Says (Jane) Lynch of this year's gay rights battles: "Shouldn't there be safeguards against the majority voting on the rights of a minority? If people voted on civil rights in the 60s, it would have never happened. It took somebody like Lyndon Johnson going, 'F all of you! I'm going to do this.' Obama won't do it. He's a huge disappointment to me."

Lynch also talks about growing up:

"I didn't know what 'gay' was in high school. We used the word 'queer' when someone was weird – when I finally heard what it really meant, my heart sank, and I thought, 'Oh God, that's me.'"

And gay actors being out in Hollywood:

"I think if I were an ingénue – if I were Kate Winslet – it probably would hurt my career, but because I'm Jane Lynch and I'm a character actor, the world isn't projecting their romantic fantasies on me."

2. Geez Jane, it's not as if he doesn't have anything else going on
He's got three more years, and had tons of shit shoveled at him from the start. I'm sure he would love to take care of it all, but unfortunately the economy is so bad and the wars so stupid they're taking him away from doing all that needs to be done. Give him a break.

4. Wow! The 2nd post? Really?
Didn't get her fucking pony did she?!

Dear GLBT,

Please understand, the president has many things on his plate. Yes, I know there is a democrat as president, a democratic majority in Congress, but there are other things which require more immediate attention. Your quest to legitimize your lifestyle, while important to the Democratic Party, is not a high priority. This coming year is mid-term elections and we can't afford to offend our base. I am sure you understand, after all, you have gone this long, can't you wait until after the midterm election?

Sincerely,

Democratic handlers for Obama

PS. Financial donations are always welcomed, and if you can't do that, we do love volunteers to help with our phone-banks. We understand you may have many things on your plate, but few things are more important at this time than insuring the Democratic party's hold on the Congress.

NOT ANOTHER DIME! gAyTM is CLOSED!

41. I think we also have to face the fact that there are these issues.... like gayrights and homelessnes
that don't make it on the national agenda of "progressives".

What I learned from Kucinich's campaign in '04, when the majority doesn't consider an issue to be important, it just doesn't get traction. Even Kucinich dropped poverty because it didn't make the "cut" of issues he asked us to vote on.

So, it gets dropped.

The fact is, there is much work to do to get "progressives" to recognize there is a world beyond the wars and the economy that deserve attention.

AND, if Obama can't multitask, then he got hired for the wrong job.

We're talking about civil rights here, not voters' request for more toothpaste.

13. Yeah, right.
"I'm sure he would love to take care of it all". Good grief.

"He's only been in office x-months". Alternatively: "He has x-more years in office to fix it". The question is how important is this to him? And then what happens after x-years in office? Is it still not important enough to fix because something more important came up in the meantime? It makes my toenails curl to hear this crap repeated ad nauseam.

In solidarity with my GLBT brothers and sisters.

Not right now, we don't want to scare off the bible belt during the midterms.
He's focusing on re-election right now.
He's got four more years, keep your pants on.
Midterms again.
Jesus, now you people speak up? Why didn't you say something six years ago?
We don't want to drop a big social issues fight in the next candidate's lap, do we?
Lame duck.

What do you think the chances are during an ELECTION years when Dems are afraid of "losing seats" and will be pressured from the DLC right (including Rahm et al) not to bring the matter up "right now"....

Then, after the losses in 2010, we will get nothing for the rest of the term.

23. I love Jane Lynch. She is amazing on "Glee".
I also loved her on the "L Word". She's right about the difference between being out as a character actor vs. as a leading man/woman. Rupert Everett had a lot of problems because he's a leading man type but was not able to get those roles. It's sad when you hear gay actors being advised to stay in the closet by other gay actors but Hollywood for all of it's claims of being broadminded, progressive, etc. is still all about the bottom line.
