1. They are all about the same. Just shop for price.
Edited on Tue Apr-24-07 12:49 PM by rusty_parts2001
Usually, the deal is 10% of the face amount of bond as the bondsman's fee.

7. I trust you guys,
I just don't have much to say.

I'm doing this long distance, so a phone book is unavailable.

9. Do it where you live
In your town. Most can handle out-of-state bonds.
Good luck.

16. You don't find it interesting,
that a recently joined member with a low post count can also be snarky?

I suggest reading each and every one of ohiosmith's posts from the moment he joined until today.

His snark is unmatchable. Some people don't even realize it's snark it's so snarky.

:bounce:

You could also read the posts by the former poster DS1 who was also unmatched in snark prior to his obtaining a granite cookie.

15. Not what I said but nice try
Someone who has been here since 2003 and low post count yet feels WE are best qualified to ask about criminals and bailbondsmen tends to feel "not so right".

23.  I would read it again but it's deleted, mods misunderstood you too.

BTW it wasn't me who alerted the mods, I was curious what your response would be. I guess "not so right" is a less condecending phrase.

I read very similar things all the time here, where for whatever reason some people think that unless you spend your frickin life gathering a high post count, they should be "tested" to see if they belong here.

I bow, and beg your pardon.

4. Just put in a search for a bail bondsman in that part of the state.
And in my brief experience with bail bondsmen, you won't find any honest ones.

8. Call the state's capital to make sure that the bondsman is
licensed or accredited.

I had an experierence with a so-called bondsman who was not only unlicensed, but also not a bondsman. He was acting as a broker for a bondsman. My client's family paid the money to him and my client rotted in jail because the "bondsman" did not have the capacity to spring him. To add insult to injury, the "bondsman" sued for default of the bond. (That wasn't a problem. I talked to the bondsman and threatened to expose his little charade to the court, good for instant arrest. He dropped the matter.)

17. Have you spoken to anyone at the jail?
If not call them let them know the situation and maybe they'll be kind enough to give you the phone number of someone they work with, good luck.

20. I called the jail
They aren't happy people there, to say the least.

All they would tell me to do is look in the phone book, which is impossible since I'm out of state.

Is to search for that location +bail bond and throw darts, or you may try getting in touch with legal aid there or a lawyer to see if they can reccomend anyone.

but that will take more time. Criminal lawyers naturally want huge retainers, he'll have to take care of that himself.

32. Not Trying to Be Too Nosy
Before I got sober 15 years ago, I was jailed, more than once. Always misdemeanor D&D but if your friend doesn't have a record and the crime isn't very serious, he should be able to get out on personal recognizance.

"Supervised Own Recognizance" at his arraignment this morning, but he declined it. Presumably he didn't like the "supervised" part of that offer.

One problem that has put him in this predicament is poor judgment.

You can't pick your relatives.
