"Christians Reviving America’s Values" calls for Congress to increase military to 2.1 million
Contact: Don Swarthout, President, Christians Reviving America’s Values, (CRAVE), 859-219-1222 or 859-619-2811

WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 /Christian Newswire/ -- Most people in America were shocked to learn there has been a long list of restrictions placed upon our troops fighting in Iraq. We have apparently been fighting the war on terror with one hand tied behind our backs.

President Bush admitted that in his January 10th speech to the nation, but the mainstream media did not give much coverage to that portion of his speech.

We have since found out that our soldiers were required to go through a “seven step mental checklist” before they could pull their triggers against the insurgents in Iraq. Additionally, American troops were not allowed to go into certain areas (including Mosques) in Iraq.

Don Swarthout, President of Christians Reviving America’s Values (CRAVE) asked, “How foolish can we be? I was amazed to learn about these restrictions on our troops. It is time for America to fight this war to win.”

Part of America’s winning strategy in the war on terror should be to increase the size of our military. Anti-war critics will claim that this is impossible, but they are wrong.

In the Reagan years America had more than 2.1 million troops deployed—and that was an all volunteer force as well. With an even larger population today, the United States could easily restore our military forces to 2.1 million or more, up from the current level of 1.4 million. This is what will be required to fight and win the war on terror.

Swarthout said, “Radical Islam has become a formidable force and it is time for us to fight to win. World War III is already here and we must come to that realization.”

“CRAVE is calling on Congress to authorize funding necessary to increase the size of the military to at least 2.1 million in order to win the war on terror. We have been called to Sound the Trumpet and warn the citizens of the United States and that is exactly what we are doing,” Swarthout concluded.

4. One Question
Is he a veteran? Is his child/children in the military? Do they plan to be once they become of age?

If you want to increase the size of the military, send your own kids first!

8. But I thought God was on our side?
Why do we need a bigger army, when soon the angels and archangels of Heaven are going to come to our defenses and vanquish our enemies? I mean, what's a couple thousand more troops compared to a guy that can control the wind and the rain.

Hey! Maybe Don is right! Maybe God does need a bigger army. Hey Don! Want to increase the size of God's Army? Go fucking kill yourself.

9. Enlistment age has been raised by 42, and I hear they will take about anyone. With all this
persuasion and power the church has, you'd think there'd be no shortage of volunteers. Onward xtian soldiers!

10. You know, I just did a brief search for the "seven step checklist" and can't find it.
I see it mentioned in places like right-wing blogs, but can't actually find the steps anywhere! Has anyone even heard of this? It sounds like an urban legend.

13. There is a seven step checklist for precision target shooting. I couldn't
find anything specific to the military or Iraq, though, either. The seven step checklist:

Stance
Grip
Sight alignment
Target alignment
Breathing
Trigger squeeze
Follow Through

17. I would not be the least surprised...
...if that common-sense list got turned into a rumor of some "politically correct" checklist somewhere along the right-wing grapevine, as the notion of the PC checklist seems to have spread much, much further than it's actual contents.

I am so tempted to call the number in the press release and ask the guy for the checklist which was so important that he offered a press release mentioning it!

14. Great idea!
Seriously, this is a great idea. Of course, it's not great for the reasons they say, but expanding the size of the military by 50% isn't quite so terrible an idea as you might think.

First of all, they'll have to figure out where to get 700,000 bodies. They can accomplish that by doing one of 2 things - one, instituting a draft, or two, making voluntary military service more attractive to a broader spectrum of young people. I believe that draft is so politically unpalatable to be off the table, so that leaves the latter option.

And, how would they make the military more attractive? That's easy - money. Lots of money. I'm all in favor of our troops getting paid better for the difficult work that they do, and what politician in their right mind would vote no for a military pay increase?

This also raises the question of why increasing the size of the military is a good idea in the first place? Simple: It'll take the load off the overtaxed military we have right now. It'll enable a lot of our National Guardsmen to resume their civilian lives, and to resume their part-time emergency domestic duties, where they are so desperately needed. The reality is that although ending this ridiculous war in Iraq is an imperative, it's also not very likely to happen before 2009. Better that we make the best of it for the people who are suffering the most as a result of Shrub's lies.

15. He's absolutely right.
We should just tell our troops to shoot anything that moves, just like in WWII. That's right, those guys never stopped to think about what they were shooting - non-combatants, children, friendlies, your own guys - no problem! Just blast them all! THAT'S how we won the war!

And in case you didn't catch it: :sarcasm: with a little dash of :puke:

16. Seems to me these people produce more than enough offspring
Pass out the enlistment forms at church. Get up on the pulpit and say it's the Christian thing to sign up for the military. No offspring of age, then one of the parents has to go. There are a lot of parents serving in Iraq, these Christian Yellow Elephants need to get their butts on the line as well.

I've never heard of the seven mental steps checklist either. BTW, this must be the talking point going around this week. I heard a caller to a local liberal show say today that his son in Iraq says every time they pull the trigger they have to see a lawyer on returning to base, and online at the PO today a number of people were bitching about the restrictions placed on the troops.

20. Is for some of them
and I fear they've already creeped into the higher echelons of our military or there would be Generals coming out of the woodwork by now against the absolute lack of strategy from day one. It is the final war, and Jesus is supposed to lead us to victory himself. War, Death, Pestilence and Famine ride by his side.
