Arkansas Woman Blames Liberals In Congress For Global Warming
I'm not making this stuff up folks. I swear. An Arkansas woman wrote an LTTE to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette to complain that it was the "Daylight Savings Time" what done it.

*** - Uh-huh. Hey, I suppose its an improvement of sorts. At least she didn't blame Bill Clinton's penis for it. Well, at least not outright.

for two: the sun and the Earth's rotation cannot be controlled by legislation, dumbass!

I don't who is dumber, the writer or the editor of the paper that decided to print this.

41. I would definitely have printed this.

Though I might have included my own disclaimer at the bottom:

For the record the author of this letter is incorrect in asserting the sun rises and sets based on legislation passed by Congress. She is also incorrect in blaming on the current Congress as the law expanding DST was passed by the previous Conservative congress before the last election.

4. Hate to say it but she is right
The use of gasoline did go up during that extra two week period. More light, more people driving around to malls and things.

14. Um, for the record that's not what she said.
Edited on Tue Apr-24-07 08:18 AM by Skinner
Whether gasoline use increased, I don't know. But that's not the point of her letter. She claims that the extra hour of daylight from daylight savings time made the earth hotter, which is obviously absurd.

EDIT: Re-wrote post to be less snarky.

15. According to a poster on Fark, this was written by a liberal friend of his as a joke.
Somebody else mentioned that he/she knew a small town paper editor who would occasionally print an honestly wacko letter such as this one just to rile people up a bit.

17. There's another one floating around out there too
Edited on Tue Apr-24-07 08:27 AM by depakid
This guy's LTTE to the Idaho Statesman is right up there- way over most people's heads:

Those of you who were convinced to acquiesce to Daylight Savings Time by being told that it was necessary for the farmers — the farmers need that extra hour of sunlight during the summer to get their work done — have now been duped into moving the change up to save energy. More sun per day, less furnace per day, less lighting needs per day. Pretty simple, eh?

The problem you are not thinking about here is global warming.

Global warming is nothing other than the planet's response to this additional sunlight each day during the warmer months. Global warming will increase with the recently added weeks of additional sunlight.

Of course, Al Gore likes and supports Daylight Savings Time as he is getting a lot of face time with his campaign for reaction to global warming. He's not about to admit that the human cause in global warming is the government's Daylight Savings Time conspiracy...

Cliff Weisgerber

Of course, after 12 years of Republicans controlling Congress and 6 years of Bush, all our sarcasm and satire detectors are so far out of calibration it may take a long time to set them straight again. I'm thinking maybe around 2010.

26. Another fine example of what I have to put up with here in Arkansas.
When my son and I moved here in 1991, we immediately began to call the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, the Fascists Gazette. You would not believe the LTTEs they print! At least a dozen a week from the American Taliban. One last Saturday from a dude that argued Bill Kristol and John Bolton weren't Neo-cons because they were never Democrats before!

Back when I was a kid and daylight savings time was in its infancy, we saw this bumper sticker one day:

LEAVE GOD'S TIME ALONE

My sister who was maybe 8 at the time, said "But God didn't create clocks!"
