NYT David Halberstam Obituary:
Upon reading his obit, I recalled how he was excoriated dufing Vietnam for stating that we had little chance to win this war, even when it was in its 'nascent' stage. The military-industrial-MSM spoke of his as a traitor and painted his as a Communist sympathizer along with others including (much later) Jane Fonda, who of course became the poster-child for the RW. Meanwhile the Times dutifully published the Johnson and Nixon Administration lies continuously and with little criticism from the Editorial Board until things really began to get out of hand.

But the Irony! Here is the Times writing about one of their own whose path to journalistic excellence was manifest on their pages and all the while, there is of course no mention made of the present and recently-departed staff, such as Judy Miller, who were almost literally in bed with the powers-that-be and who facilitated this push to war with a country which was no more a threat to our security than many others with whom we maintain diplomatic relations. these are the Times reporters who now make headlines.

Someday, they'll be writing obits of people like Sy Hersh, Krugman, and others who opposed this war from the beginning. These reporters were not cowards, not Islamo-fascist sympathizers, but they knew that the war was doomed to fail from the start and was based on lies. And believe you me, the Times will take credit for publishing their 'ground-breaking' work first and never mention how they aided this absurdist descent into a war conceived entirely on falsehoods.
