The decisive step in the destruction of America as we knew it was opposed by only one US politician

who had a vote: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authorization_for_Use_of_Military_Force_Against_Terrorists

I don't know about you, but I howled and pleaded and argued against going along with that monstrous error. Well, it wasn't an error from all points of view, only as regards the interest and well-being of ordinary people here and around the world.

It was a great and wonderful vote when it came to serving the interest of arms merchants, bin Laden and his then tiny gang of suiciders (made him as big and important as the US of goddamn A), homicidal nutters, crazed fundie religionists and scammers of all varieties and flavors, and very importantly, the transnational corporate monsters whose very survival depends on expanding the use of mass killing machines to rape and plunder resources from and destroy every part of the planet.

But it was the worst possible vote for all 534 who would not say no, and for the future of all ordinary people everywhere. They opened the gates of hell.

Only one vote against. What a crying, crying, crying shame.

(edit typo)

1. Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Lee

She explained "It was a blank check to the president to attack anyone involved in the September 11 events—anywhere, in any country, without regard to our nation's long- term foreign policy, economic and national security interests, and without time limit. In granting these overly broad powers, the Congress failed its responsibility to understand the dimensions of its declaration.... The president has the constitutional authority to protect the nation from further attack and he has mobilized the armed forces to do just that. The Congress should have waited for the facts to be presented and then acted with fuller knowledge of the consequences of our action."

that authorizing the dumbass monkey cheerleader and his soul-less owners and operators that kind of authority and legitimacy meant granting even more power top the most evil, rapacious, vicious and destructive forces on this planet.

(edit very slightly, because it's always something)

But Rep. Lee was using Congress-speak. ;)

She was very courageous, nonetheless, and history has proven that she was absolutely correct. :-( :patriot:

6. I see the first unrec appeared after I posted a derogatory comment about their dumbass pResesident
Sorry, but you folks really have to get a clue. That was the most stupid, greedy, cowardly, vile, dishonest, manipulative, evil and destructive regime that has ever ruled this sad country. I am pretty sure the damage they did to the people of this planet can never be undone. Their legacy will be more food for cockroaches, and not much else.
