Tim Hortons' Trash Pickup? Future Shop Emergency Medical Service?....Winnipeg's looking for sponsors
via CBC News:

Winnipeg offers naming rights for civic services
Last Updated: Friday, January 1, 2010 | 12:03 PM ET

The Canadian Press

Ever dreamed of having your name immortalized on a parking meter?

How about on a city bus ticket or a heart defibrillator in the back of an ambulance?

Winnipeg is banking on a few takers. The city that recently toyed with the idea of corporate-sponsored pothole repair is launching a new campaign aimed at raising money by selling off the naming rights of virtually any city service.

Everything from library books, to dog licences and memory sticks used in police cruisers is up for grabs. While the move has disgusted some who decry increased commercialism, Mayor Sam Katz says it's no different than naming a hospital wing after a generous donor.

Open to average citizens

The city — like many municipalities across Canada — needs to find new sources of revenue and this is a good alternative to raising property taxes, Katz said. ...........(more)

1. It'd be appropriate, since Tim Hortons sells trash donuts and trash coffee

12. BC
Prior to Bush's second election, I just saw conditions that spelled financial and social disaster for the US. I also didn't believe that the US would be able to come close its social net and egalitarian nature due to entrench systematic corruption, despite how many times you vote for the lesser of two evils. In the end, the battle seemed too long and futile, compared to the instant benefits I would receive for myself and family by simply moving. Though some resign themselves to the good ol fight, which may honestly be due to the self-gratification some get in the fighting, my children shouldn't be enlisted regardless of my gusto. I ran to a better tomorrow for my family, from a corrupt cesspool I resented.

6. I agree with you on the donuts, but I think Timmy's coffee is pretty good....
..... I'd take it over the overpriced overroasted dirt water at Charbucks any day.

7. Logically, Tim Horton's should sponsor the ambulance service.
After all, those donuts have clogged more than their share of Winnipeg's arteries.

9. LOL true.
Tim Hortons does a good job of donating to medical causes, digital imaging campaign, Red Cross, hospitals, relief efforts, sending kids to camp, Horton's Kids, Children's Foundation, and ......... St. John's Ambulance. But I kind of like those donuts.

10. When I was in Winnipeg 9 years ago...
...it took forever to find a Tim Horton's. I prefer home brewed to any store bought coffee anyway. Tim Horton's used to have great donuts before they were bought out by Wendy's. They centralized the processing somewhere in Ontario so no there aren't freshly made ones in the stores anymore. You have to love a corporation that buys an icon and then ruins it to make a buck.

11. I know, I was upset when they merged with Wendy's. Still a good
company though as they really do give a lot to many causes. Especially anything involving kids. And, they are making a fortune with their coffee at least.

13. Which also begs the question of where Wendy's actually cooks its burgers
But leave that be for the moment(although it does give me yet ANOTHER reason to stay vegetarian).
