And the next person who mentions it is going to get "Great. Can I have all your stuff?"

3. Plenty of suckers out there
Wonder how much of this 2.4 million will go to homeless shelters, food banks and child care centers.

Where does all this money go?

6. gosh, all I need is about 5 grand to help me out
we have insurance, but we had to use savings for the first two rounds of chemo at 2 grand a pop. We will get that back, but you know it will take months

17. I wonder what kind of response
you would get if you requested a bit of help from Rev. Warren's "foundations" and "charities."

I am very cynical about the motivations of these mega churches. I really wonder how much "help" they really give.

Hope all goes well with your treatments. I wish you a speedy recovery and a long happy life.

10. May the Rupture occur in 2010 and take all these people away.
Wherever they're headed, good riddance to them.

Now, this is not wishing ill on anyone. They all think they're going to Heaven or something. Maybe it's a big flying saucer near a comet. I don't care. Goodbye and good riddance.

Rupture in 2010! Learn it. Live it. Experience it.

11. You know what the sad part of that story is
People will be in debt, lose homes and face financial ruin yet they will still fork hard earned money over to thieves like Warren.

13. I know someone like that
They are sweet decent people, a bit slow but very kind hearted. They are both disabled and live on a small fixed income. She told me she tries to send money to Schuller whenever she can. Another fundie mega-church scam, IMHO. Once you donate, they have your address and keep sending pleas for more donations.

I told her that her money would be put to better use if she donated to a local food bank or charity - that Schuller didn't need her money. I think she may have actually heard what I said.

These churches prey on the poor, the old, the disabled; people who are conned into believing that if they just keep giving and keep believing that they will be rewarded.

Brainwashed by a bible banging false prophet. They think they are buying their way to heaven, the four white horsemen will come and they will be floated to heaven because they gave all they had so a few could live with it all.

33. Warren doesn't have any of those things
Well, other than a relatively small house. You may be confusing him with Joel Osteen?

Warren is a genuinely decent guy with many views I do not personally agree with. The reason why so many people gave money is because he is a decent guy, and they believe in the mission of the church. I have family who attend his church. He doesn't take a salary from the church, and he certainly won't keep any of this money for himself. The church has dozens and dozens of programs and ministries, both within the church community and for greater missions (ex. AIDS/orphans in Africa).

35. If that is true
then that is a good thing.

I've seen far too many people taken in by these mega-church preachers. if he actually does use the donations for the betterment of humanity, terrific.

Not real crazy about his support for Proposition 8 and his equating gay marriage with incest, though.

37. he doesn't take a salary now that his books are successful--it isn't that he never took a salary.
regardless of what a decent person some people think he is, the following overrides that--he is a homophobic, creationist bigot:

. . . . . .
In a conversation with atheist author Sam Harris in Newsweek magazine, Warren spoke out against evolution and in favor of creationism. He also said that brutal dictators such as Mao, Stalin, and Pol Pot were all atheists, when questioned on whether religion is beneficial to society. <29> In 2005, during the Terri Schiavo controversy, Warren stated that withholding feeding to Schiavo, a woman in a persistent vegetative state, was "not a right to die issue". He then called Michael Schiavo's decision to remove her feeding tube, "an atrocity worthy of Nazism", <30> and while speculating about Michael's Schiavo's motives, put forward the idea that Schiavo wanted Terri to die because, if she regained consciousness, she might have "something to say that he didn‘t want said." <31>

Two weeks before the 2008 U.S. general election, Warren issued a statement to his congregation endorsing California Proposition 8, which would amend the California Constitution to say "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California," thereby eliminating the right of same-sex couples to marry.<32><33> Warren's position was consistent with the official position of his church's denomination, the Southern Baptist Convention, and reflected his belief that this definition of marriage "has been supported by every single culture, and every single religion for 5,000 years."<32><34> Warren stated that the measure was necessary because the Supreme Court of California "threw out the will of the people" in May 2008 when it found, in the In Re Marriage Cases decision, that the previous statutory ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.<32> After the measure passed, Warren's church and others were targeted by protesters.<35>

In an interview with Beliefnet in early December, Warren again sparked controversy by appearing to equate same-sex marriages to marriages of siblings, multiple partners, and adults and minors.<36><37><38> He later released a video message saying that he does not equate gay relationships with incest or pedophilia, and that, as he had stated during the Beliefnet interview, he opposes the redefinition of marriage.<39>
