My gods. I actually got somebody to CONSIDER something today.
Was having lunch with a very nice guy, and conversation is all over the place. One question: "You don't believe in evolution, do you? I mean APES?...I see you do."
His rationale was that we couldn't see it happening, so it wasn't real.
OK...where to start. I'm no debater, but...
Fruitflies and moths are good for biologists and geneticists but not in an explanation from one sorta-lay person to another.
Dogs, however...

Let's look at dogs. Used to be there was wolves, and just wolves, right? Dogs are descended from them...and how many breeds of dogs are there now?
This is evolution where humans stuck their finger in the pie to influence how things turn out. Breed for certain qualities and characteristics (select for) and sterilize those that don't meet them (select against).
How much have various breeds changed, even in the last 40-50 years?
That's something you can see.

Very thoughtful expression on nice guy's face..."Huh. I never thought of that."

:bounce: :woohoo:

3. Nice work!
Funny thing, though, and I'm assuming this guy might call himself a Christian (since so many of them tend to disbelieve evolution). I bet he reads the Bible - the Old AND NEW Testaments. Perhaps during one of his reading sessions, he's come across the account of Thomas the Apostle, who declared he would NOT believe Jesus had risen from the dead unless he could stick his finger into His wounds and his hand into Christ's side (where it had been pierced by a soldier's lance toward the end of the Crucifixion). Thomas was damned sure it never happened because he hadn't seen it. He, too, couldn't see it happening, so it wasn't real. But everybody else aside from him knew and believed (they had seen, of course, while ol' Thomas was out somewhere else that day), and EVERYBODY ELSE AFTER THEM, who hadn't seen for themselves had only heard about it and still believed. As your friend does with his faith in Christ (assuming, again, that he is a Christian). Since he's never seen Christ, how can he be sure?
