Iranian President Offers to Have Televised Talks With Bush
Monday, April 23, 2007

Associated Press

TEHRAN, Iran — President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday proposed holding talks with U.S. President George W. Bush — a surprise suggestion from the hard-line leader whose country is at odds with Washington over its disputed nuclear program and involvement in Iraq, Iran's state-run Arabic satellite TV channel reported.

"Last year, I announced readiness for a televised debate over global issues with his excellency Mr. Bush. And now we announce that I am ready to negotiate with him about bilateral issues as well as regional and international issues," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying on the Web site of Al-Alam.

--
Ahmadinejad's offer was not the first overture he has made to Bush. Last year, Ahmadinejad proposed holding a televised debate with the American president, but the White House called the offer "a diversion from the legitimate concerns" about Iran's nuclear program.

Also last year, Ahmadinejad wrote a letter to the U.S. president that Washington dismissed as irrelevant because it also did not address the issue of Iran's nuclear program.

3. What the hell else does Iran have to do to open diplomatic talks?
Ahmadinejad is keying into our culture far better than the cabal in the WH.

I'd watch. MKJ

4. I don't know about Ahmadinejad's debating abilities...
but I would bet they're better than Bush's. I know, that's a VERY low bar, but I don't think Georgie Boy's handlers would let him take that chance, even if he were willing to "negotiate" (read: talk) with the "enemy."

9. I thought Saddam invited Bush to a one on one fight to the death with Bush choosing the weapons?
Maybe that was a different movie?

7. This is a tough situation for the U.S.
and they only have one option: downplay the whole Dare. No matter what they say, they will only look like hypocrites and will draw more attention to the situation.

Why don't you want to debate, then? Out in the open.
Of course, the US doesn't want that. Iran has nothing to lose.

They will soft-pedal this in Washington.
